Overall Satisfaction with Canto

Canto is being used as our photography library. It's being used across the marketing department to all other departments. It addresses the ease of seeing what our best photography is for our team and outside teams. This is crucial and a missing component to what we previously had in place.
  • Searchability
  • Flexibility
  • Plug-in capability for Adobe products--our team is just starting to test out using this and off the bat it seems like there are some issues with the images downloading to the machine rather than truly being cloud-based links
  • Sometimes a bit overwhelming with all the features; its taking our team a while to get the product up and running
  • Filtering is not as intuitive as I had thought
  • Takes a long time to build up metadata for the filtering
  • Metadata and tagging for searchability
  • sharability within and externally
  • Only negative I can say right now is the cost of getting the team up to speed and trained and the tool migrated and fully set up
  • Once we're fully set up it will be very efficient
  • Great visibility into all our photography
  • user interface is not as intuitive as I had hoped
We previously used Dropbox, and that search functionality was OK--no tagging capability at all which really made it hard and very convoluted to find any photos. It also caused the folder system to be very detailed and hard to navigate. With the tagging in Canto and teachability, we will have such an easier time finding photos.

Do you think Canto delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Canto's feature set?

No

Did Canto live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Canto go as expected?

No

Would you buy Canto again?

No

Canto really seems well suited to be a photo cataloging tool and photo sharing tool. I think it lacks a little bit in terms of full capability due to storage cost and constraints in that category.

Using Canto

4 - design and photography skills
  • Photography library
  • Photography curating
i'm not sure its really working out for our organization.

Evaluating Canto and Competitors

Yes - dropbox
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
really were looking for a product that had the ability to tag and search for photos so that we could find what we're looking for quickly without having to dig deep in folders
Maybe would have trial-ran other options. but its hard because you would need to import and set up so much of your data and images to be able to really evaluate if it is or isn't going to work for your organization. The onboarding of the tool was quite painful.

Canto Implementation

I guess don't try to implement it in-house. Perhaps hire a third party to help but by then you're spending some serious money on a tool that could or could not be beneficial in the end so its a gamble.
  • very time consuming and did not have resources available to spend that much time
  • had to learn it as we implemented which made it difficult

Canto Support

they are responsive but some of the issues we had a year ago are still occurring for instance one was caused by a version update they made to their plug in tool and that caused fuctionality errors on our end. when brought up to their support they didn't do a whole lot and relied on our team to do the legwork and testing.
ProsCons
Immediate help available
Quick Initial Response
Slow Resolution
Poor followup
Problems left unsolved
Not kept informed
Escalation required
Need to explain problems multiple times
I did not know that was an option so no
they are always responsive and available to schedule time to talk through questions but on the more technical side of things is where solutions to problems are greatly lacking in my opinion.

Using Canto

some of the features and usablity are great but most of it takes sooo long to get off the ground. we spent well over a year on it so far and still working on it which is disappointing.
ProsCons
Consistent
Do not like to use
Unnecessarily complex
Difficult to use
Requires technical support
Not well integrated
Slow to learn
Cumbersome
Feel nervous using
Lots to learn
  • uploading photos
  • batch editing
  • tagging
  • structuring and planning out the metadata
  • searching
