Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
Dropbox is where we store all of our creative files. I use it every day for work and it syncs perfectly to the files folder on my Mac. Dropbox makes my job a lot easier/faster than some competitor storage solutions I have tried in the past simply because of the integration with the desktop app.
Pros
- Dropbox has always been reliable in my 15+ years using it—so I have confidence my files are safe!
- Dropbox uploads are fast and I like how it shows me when each one has synced successfully.
- The Dropbox desktop app on my Mac is the most important feature to me--this works well and saves me a lot of time.
Cons
- The only issue I've been having over the last 6 months (at least) is some of my packaged files (which include the .INDD file) will not upload to the desktop app. I get an error window when I try. I have to open the web app to upload those, which did not always happen in the past.
- Anytime we have a discussion with management on where we can cut costs, or what products we can change or get rid of, Dropbox has always been an easy one for me to convince the team to keep due to the usefulness and affordable cost for our small team.
- OneDrive and Google Drive
Some of our team members use OneDrive since we already have storage included in our Microsoft Office plan. Years ago, our management team tried copying our creative files from Dropbox to OneDrive, but OneDrive could not handle some of our larger design files (such as .INDD and .AI art files), so the most important files in the folders were missing. I caught this issue and we have stayed with Dropbox for our creative files ever since. To us, the low cost to keep Dropbox is worth knowing our files are safe.
