Overall Satisfaction with Litmus
We use Litmus to develop & test email templates for marketing to prospective students. At the moment, it’s used by Admissions only but could be implemented across campus easily.
Litmus is great because it allows us to manage email production from beginning to end. We hired out our base template production to a developer who wrote the code with Litmus’ snippeting feature in mind. This has made for streamlined production workflow.

Pros
- To my knowledge, there's no tool/company that knows the nuances of HTML/CSS support for email by clients better than Litmus. There's no comparison.
- It’s really nice to have a quality HTML editor/syntax highlighting built in.
- Litmus offers some unique analytics that you can integrate into your messages, including engagement time (amount of time spent reading a message) — something I’d never seen before.
Cons
- The newer folder & organization structure released in 2020 still needs some finessing at this point. I’d really like to see drag-and-drop for message organization.
- The in-browser experience can feel slightly slow/clunky at times, but it’s bearable.
- Our CRM strips out Litmus’ analytics code when it minifies the HTML which is a bummer.
- Using our pre-built templates and Litmus’ editor, we’re able to produce emails quickly.
- Data points in Litmus analytics are unique.
- Inbox previews are super helpful for diagnosing issues before sending.
Litmus Analytics have helped us understand where and how prospective students are reading our messages, and that kind of information has helped us refine our template development. I’d like to round trip Litmus Analytics back into our CRM for a 360° picture of our marketing.
We’ve not used Proof to date, but the concept makes a ton of sense to me.
If you’re looking for a drag-and-drop email editor, Litmus probably isn’t the right fit for you. If you’re looking for a quality code editor with templates & snippeting, plus testing & analytics, Litmus is an excellent option.
