Overall Satisfaction with Miro

We use Miro for drawing software / public and private cloud infrastructure low level architecture diagrams.

Pros

  • It has a lot of built-in icons for various cloud and kubernetes services which can be used in architecture diagrams.
  • It is user friendly to draw software architecture diagram and also easy to pick up if you are new to diagramming in Miro.
  • It is easy to share Miro boards with teammates and collaborate. Also it is easy to download diagrams in various formats.

Cons

  • I think it could be better when it comes to making connecting various boxes in an architecture diagram more user friendly.
  • It would be good if it allowed people to give review comments to the Miro board to update diagrams based on peer review.
  • Also it could be good to introduce a concept of containership, where you can group related boxes together on a Miro board and then lock them and move them around together on boards.
  • It makes it easy to build software architecture diagrams
  • It makes it easy to collaborate with peers on Miro boards
  • It makes it easy to download specific sections in a Miro board
I think Miro is quite user friendly and it is also not very difficult to pick up for a new user.
Creating and collaborating with peers on Miro boards has been the impactful feature of Miro that has had the most impact for me.
Using Miro I can create software architecture diagrams and then I am able to easily download those diagrams and then use the same quite easily in Low Level Design Documents that I am preparing in say Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
MS Visio used to require it to be installed on the computer to use it but Miro can be used via the browser no client installation is required.

Using Miro

  • Draw deployment architecture diagrams for on-prem software systems.
  • Draw deployment architecture diagrams for cloud-based software systems.
  • Use those diagrams in customer presentations
  • Using the latest AI features integrated in Miro to ease diagraming.
  • Use AI features in Miro even more.
I think Miro is a nice tool and it fits our use cases well and we also like the user friendliness of the tool. We have been Miro extensively for our use cases and to replace it with another tool will require us to unlearn and relearn another tool which may not be a very optimum use of our time.

Evaluating Miro and Competitors

  • Cloud Solutions
  • Ease of Use
User friendliness of Miro and the range of different diagramming templates that it provided to get starting with diagramming complex system architectures quickly and also the different widgets that it provides to use within those diagrams to visualize all kind of tools and systems makes the job of cloud architects easy.
I would not change anything in my evaluation and selection process for an a system architecture diagramming tool, it will be the same.

Miro Implementation

  • Not part of the implementation phase as I am a end user of Miro within my organization.

Miro Support

I haven't had to deal with Miro support so far as I am a user of Miro and I am not the one who is managing Miro within my organization.
My organization has purchased premium support for Miro as it is an important tool for us and we don't to be left in a lurch if any issues arise with our Miro setup.
I haven't dealt with Miro support so far.
