Overall Satisfaction with OneDrive
We use OneDrive so that everyone can have access to essential files. It allows the entire company to see and edit files together, addressing the communication gap that can sometimes occur within companies. We use it so everyone can see files that need to be shared.
Pros
- Allows for communication.
- Allows for customization.
- Creates transparent companies.
Cons
- If you have someone with a history of using OneDrive at other companies, some files can blend together. At least from my point of view, I could see files that did NOT belong, which made me super paranoid.
- It needs a better user interface to show what is shared with the rest of the company and what is NOT.
- Simpler, intuitive set up with solve this issue.
- It has saved time to find files that are now more "public domain".
- It allows us to collaborate which has created better team cohesion.
- Honestly, the lack of understanding of what is shared with everyone is frustrating. I spent hours deleting stuff that I didn't want to be shared (my taxes, my wedding photos, etc.), and it got to a point where I just had to relax and say, "Whatever happens, happens," as checking my files and everywhere that it can save to daily was insane.
I like Google Drive because it's never given me a problem, unlike OneDrive. However, they are both very similar; ideally, BOX IS BEST. For my personal life, Google Drive is great, and even at my last job, Google Drive worked great before it was replaced with OneDrive. If Microsoft didn't want as much data as possible for their AI aspirations, maybe this issue wouldn't be occurring, but I can't say that with 100% certainty about the cause.

OneDrive Feature Ratings
Using OneDrive
25 - They represent all business functions within my company. I could see where maybe only the office workers use it in different companies, but we are all white collar type workers in the pharma world and every computer uses it - even those for our remote employees across the United States.
1 - To support OneDrive, I imagine you would want an IT person who is extremely familiar with all Microsoft Products, especially everything included in MS 365. They would probably have a Bachelor's in IT/Technology, know a lot about networking, and love to troubleshoot. We have a great guy at my company.
- Share all sorts of documents
- Allow the whole company to edit or brainstorm together in the documents
- Allows us to collaborate openly
- It can be used when breaking big chunks of work into individual responsibilities
- Forces input from all involved
- Has helped our team work better together
- We might be able to use it for the Remote Employees to have fun with a Team Building exercise
- It could be used as a competitive tool to create better and better "Best Practices" with each learning experience we go through
- It adds transparency to everything that we do and create
Evaluating OneDrive and Competitors
Not Sure
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
I believe most of us were just used to it as nearly everyone's personal e-mail address is through G-Mail. Therefore, training isn't really needed and everyone is aware of how to utilize it. For more secure documents, Drop would be a better choice in this situation though, in my opinion.
I wouldn't have changed much except for one thing. I would have made everyone aware that if they change their login name to a personal account, ANY and ALL downloads may be able be used and loaded by the entire company. That could cause one of the most embarassing days of a person's life.
