Overall Satisfaction with QuickBase

We use QuickBase for everything. Every single one of our departments use QuickBase. QuickBase apps have been developed specific to each department and I've even developed my own app for our marketing department. I developed my app to catalog articles and information I find on the web on a particular topic and it works perfectly.
  • Custom report building
  • App creation is easy
  • Automatically generating charts from table data
  • Better help online for writing custom formulas
  • More chart types
  • Better customization of charts
Yes, we have achieved this benefit and then some. We have built apps for almost everything. We have a joke around here which is a take on Apple's old campaign of "there's an app for that!" I've built my own app and am preparing to build another. Our people often suggest new ideas for apps and then someone builds it. Because QuickBase has been so easy for every of of us to use, we're all in the mindset that if it currently doesn't do what we want, we just need to suggest another app to be built. The number of times people say around here, "Hey, we should build an app that does this or that," is crazy!
I didn't select Quickbase. When I came aboard, this is just what they were using so it's not like I have a choice to pick something else. Even if I did have a choice, I really wouldn't know what to pick. If I had to go out on my own now and pick something else, I wouldn't. QuickBase has been so great to work with I wouldn't want to work with anything else.
I personally don't think QuickBase apps are too difficult to build but I think that's because I am familiar with databases, tables, conditional logic, data relationships, etc. Where I do find I struggle a bit is on the syntax of custom formulas. I do wish there was a more down to earth, layman's guide on formulas for QuickBase. I think anyone can build an app but they might hit a wall getting it to do what they want if they can't figure out how to write the correct formula when needed.
  • Building and deploying business applications faster
  • Improving our ability to drive insights from our data
  • Improving collaboration across one or more teams
  • Building and deploying an application (or multiple applications) that meets our exact needs
We've achieved all of these. Especially, building and deploying an apps that meets our exact needs. I think building apps it pretty fast already but I think it could be faster. It would be great if QuickBase had a drag and drop interface where you could just pull items from a tray and arrange them in a workspace to build your app visually!
I built an app to catalog links to news articles I find online on a particular subject we'd like to stay on top of. This app is used by many people in our company and works great. But later I realized I could make it even greater if I added a few new fields and changed the way it displayed data. Doing that was a piece of cake and didn't take too long at all. I struggled a bit because I thought I needed to create a custom formula to do what I wanted it to do. When I couldn't figure out how to do that (because the online help was lacking) I abandoned that idea and actually found out how to do it without the formula so it worked even better.
I've been using QuickBase for almost a year and a half now and I really haven't found a scenario it's not suited for. With the ability to make your own apps, you can pretty much get it to do whatever you want. Maybe I'm just thinking too narrowly and I'm focused too much on our particular business, I don't know. But I really think it's pretty versatile for many different companies in varying industries. I sure wish we had it at my last company!
