Don't do it. Just don't.
Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Online
The hope was that it could provide bookkeeping services for our eCommerce business. We were previously on QuickBooks Desktop, and it seemed to make more sense to be with QuickBooks Online to have a more direct integration with our website. However, we never actually completed the implementation. Their Commerce product (which is supposed to integrate eCommerce with QuickBooks Online) is subpar and wasn't able to handle some basic eCommerce functionality. Beyond that, my experience with QuickBooks customer service has been so terrible that ultimately we've given up on trying to switch over, and will be canceling and going back to QuickBooks Online. It has been an exercise in frustration trying to deal with this company.
Pros
- Ease of access
- Maintaining live data across different systems/locations
Cons
- Customer service is absolutely horrible
- Commerce (their eCommerce plugin) isn't fully functional
- Attempt to migrate from QuickBooks Desktop has been a terrible experience
- Wasted hours and hours of my time
- Greatly increased my stress levels
QuickBooks Desktop is a really crappy piece of software, from a UI/UX perspective. As an example, the font in the program is tiny. You would think that would be a simple setting you could change, but take a look at what's involved in simply making the font a readable size: https://blog.accountinghelpline.com/quickbooks-desktop-issues/quickbooks-font-too-small/ However, as crappy as QuickBooks Desktop is, we're switching back to it because it pales in comparison to the headache of trying to switch to QuickBooks Online and having to deal with their customer support (or lack thereof) in the process. I'd rather stick with the crappy desktop software than have to spend another day trying to get useful information out of the Intuit support team.

QuickBooks Online Support
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
None | Slow Resolution Poor followup Less knowledgeable Problems left unsolved Not kept informed Escalation required Difficult to get immediate help Need to explain problems multiple times Support doesn't seem to care Slow Initial Response |
No. Didn't know it was available, and "premium support" purchase shouldn't be required to receive a basic level of competency.
Absolutely not. The only time I got anything resembling quality customer support was when I got to the point of cc'ing Intuit executives on an email chain after spending weeks trying to get a problem resolved. They were quick to respond, and helpful-ish, but still couldn't resolve the issue with their product that was causing problems for my business.
Integrating QuickBooks Online
Was trying to do basic ecommerce integration through their Commerce product. It is a half-assed product that doesn't provide basic functionality necessary for an ecommerce business. It took about 5 minutes to add it to Quickbooks Online. When we realized it wouldn't do the basic things necesarry for my ecommerce business, they said I would have to wait 3 weeks for Commerce to be removed from Quickbooks Online—and of course in the meantime, I couldn't go back to MyWorks, which we were previously using to connect our online store to Quickbooks. Terrible experience all around.
