Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

ScienceLogic is being used in a datacenter environment for monitoring computers, storage, and network resources. The datacenter administrates SL1, and all other departments are the customer. It addresses the problem that previously no central platform existed for the capture of events across multiple platforms.
  • Discovery of different types of devices in one session using multiple credential types
  • Very custom dashboards
  • granular roles and rights
  • Support could be more responsive
  • ScienceLogic has led to teams being more proactive in addressing problems.
Visibility for all teams into other teams assets has given a better idea of RCA that was previously more siloed and difficult to troubleshoot
Not using SL1 for new products or business growth
SL1 is now being used to automated email alerts across multiple platforms
  • Using the vcenter PowerPack, we are taking events generated from vcenter and having them as emailed alerts, such as when vcenter begins to become unhealthy.
I used BMC Client Management at a previous job. ScienceLogic was already in place at my current position.
Well suited to monitor a diverse environment. Less suited if the users do not know what they want to do with the data that will be collected.

Configuring ScienceLogic SL1

Our use case requires use of CAC authentication. Getting it working on the SL1 platform was a tremendous amount of work that required a lot of in house linux and nginx knowledge as well as frequent contact with SL1 support. We had it working on the older EM7 platform, but removed it when initially moving to SL1. It has not been worth the effort to redo the CAC configurations since then. Beyond the CAC case, SL1 has proven to be very configurable, limited only by ones knowledge of how the dynamic apps work, python, regex, etc.
