Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business

  • It's used for instant message for quick conversations
  • It serves as a conferencing tool
  • It serves as a troubleshooting tool for one-to-one issues
  • It serves as a way to communicate via IM with clients
  • It is being used across the entire organization across all departments
  • It solves communication issues by supplying a simple way to communicate quickly with colleagues and clients
  • Instant Message/quick communication
  • Screen Sharing
  • Quickly establish online meetings
  • Easy quick collaboration between multiple people and departments
  • Cross-platform usability (Mac client, even the beta, is far behind where it should be)
  • Simpler integration with non-skype for business products such as existing conferencing services
  • Better documentation for updating environments that are more simple
  • Not a lot of broad user acceptance of using it as a conferencing tool (vs GoToMeeting or WebEx)
  • Cross-platform organizations that have a significant Apple user base will have difficulty with user acceptance
  • Organizations with complex networks may have issues with different conferencing tools working consistently
  • HipChat
Ways HipChat is Better
  • Hipchat is significantly more cross-platform friendly
  • A little more customizable
Ways Skype for Business is Better
  • Skype for Business is more secure and doesn't display chats during a locked screen with content
  • Skype for Business integrates better with other Microsoft products better such as Exchange from a server perspective and Outlook from a user perspective
Well Suited
-Semi-technical staff
-For organizations where quick easy internal collaboration is needed
-For organizations that have significant geographic obstacles from quick communication between employees
-Need for quick simple communication tool

Not Well Suited
-Client presentations where you are dealing with non-technical users
-In environments where it is more of a presentation tool rather than a collaboration tool (meetings of 100+)
