Splashtop is a great alternative to other remove desktop platforms
Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop
Our entire staff uses Splashtop to provide remote support for desktop PC configurations and custom software applications we've developed. We occasionally use it to access virtual machines on our own servers. This allows us fairly quick access to machines all over North America and is especially helpful when we work remotely away from our office.
Pros
- Low memory usage on client machines
- Very simple setup of runner software
- File sharing is simple and offers decent transfer speed
- Management interface is simple and uncluttered
Cons
- Using virtual monitors sometimes results in black screen appearing when remotely accessing machine
- There's sometimes strange behavior display behavior (colored bands, mouse pointer imprecise positioning, sudden change in resolution) on Lenovo laptops with older Radeon dedicated GPUs
- Would like more bandwidth consumption data for connecting over metered connections or low-bandwidth connections
- Lower support costs because we don't need to travel to clients
- Quick and easy on-demand access when clients call needing help
- We've found recent uses for accessing remote machines from mobile devices, and that has been really helpful in emergencies.
- We were long-time users or LogMeIn, but we've found Splashtop to be just as capable and less expensive.
As far as I'm concerned, the security is fine. Splashtop seems to offer similar features to competitors, and I don't have any reason to doubt that.
It was very easy to set up the management console on our machines and get the first client machines registered and accessible. We recently needed to roll out both the console and runner app to other machines, and that actually went faster than I expected and without any problems. I do think it was faster and easier than my experiences with TeamViewer.
