Overall Satisfaction with TriNet
I am the Director of HR, and we use TriNet for all our payroll/HR needs. We have several locations in different states. TriNet does offer several other platforms, including Time & Attendance, Applicant Tracking, Benefits, Compliance, and Employee Retention. You can use their system for pre-employment background checks and drug tests. You can build your reports and select from the many reports already in their system. You can post jobs to several job boards all at once. You have a dedicated person to help you through any issues.
Pros
- You have any compliance questions at your fingertips-for any state.
- You can post jobs to 5 different job boards at one time.
- You can build your own reports with whatever criteria you need.
Cons
- The fact that everything is on a different platform, they don't talk to each other sometimes.
- Pricing for Drug tests and Background check is higher than if I do it off site.
- I would like to be able to see an employee's personal e-mail without having to "edit".
- Without running a report, I would like to see the complete social security number.
- Looking at an employee's profile, it would be nice to see DOH & DOT without going into the profile... next to their name at the top.
- I would like to be able to pay an employee with a manual check. There are times when the employee needs the funds immediately and can't wait the three or four days it takes to process a payroll.
- Access to see employee's driver's license number on their profile.
- We went with Tri-Net to keep our health insurance costs down.
- Owners wanted a PEO, they seemed to be the best fit.
- To help with HR Compliance with several states.
We did not have TriNet during COVID.
We selected TriNet because the owners wanted to use a PEO. After reviewing several PEOs, TriNet was our best option.

Evaluating TriNet and Competitors
Yes - it tried to replace our HR, but it made our live more difficult when you can't help an employee. We are a Mom-Pop company and our employees are like a family. This made it so hard to continue to treat our employees like family.
- Other
The owner insisted on a PEO. only after employee and managers complaints were we allowed to change to a different payroll company that was not a PEO
Yes, I would have tried harder to explain to the owners that a PEO would not save money, and employees would not be happy
TriNet Implementation
- Implemented in-house
- Third-party professional services
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
- Didn't seem to have any issue during implementation
TriNet Training
Configuring TriNet
Don't lie to customers when they ask specifically f it is all one platform.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
No - we have not done any custom code
TriNet Support
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
None | Slow Resolution Poor followup Problems left unsolved Not kept informed Escalation required Need to explain problems multiple times Slow Initial Response |
I didn't know there was such a thing, but why should I have to pay extra for support that should be standard?
Yes - We had bugs all the time, but a "ticket" was created and that was the end of it
The people were great, but they can't help you when it is the system that doesn't work
