DemandTools

With a few small exceptions, DemandTools does everything that Apex Data Loader and Workbench do for uploading and updating records and does it with an easier-to-learn, feature-rich, guided interface. (And no annoying package installs like the Apex loader.) It doesn't handle querying of deleted records (at least that I am aware of), though it's the only tool I use for batch restoring of RecordIDs if you have them archived or if you query them from Apex Data Loader. I don't use the duplicate management features personally, but our organization uses them extensively on a daily basis.

If you receive a notification that a prospect just read your email and you don't receive a response, you're then aware they've received it and your pitch or product is on their mind -- making a call later that day all the more effective.

Pros

DemandTools

  • Report/Find IDs is the hidden gem of DemandTools. It is basically a super fast vlookup against your entire database. Easily add data to a report or find the records that match a list. I used this feature extensively when migrating data to a new org to do a compare numbers.
  • Data export by object is so easy and the ability to pull data from any related object is powerful. I find myself using data export more then running reports in SF because it's so much faster and hugely flexible.
  • Every module has clear steps and in-line help.

  • The e-mail tracking feature is easy to use and very handy.
  • The snippets feature are very good, have shortcuts to use and save a lot of time.
  • Having a CRM platform inside your Gmail/Gsuite account is great for improving the use in a day to day basis.

Cons

DemandTools

  • Cannot run on Mac (we have to do all work through a VM which often involves transferring files back and forth and causes issues with scheduled jobs).
  • My Marketing counterpart has expressed concerns over functionality (has had issues with scheduled jobs, the title normalization, and is looking at similar platforms that also allow for lead routing).
  • UI while functional is inferior to many other platforms I've reviewed. I've used DemandTools for many years at my past company, so I've not had issues but it's been difficult for my counterpart to adapt to the interface.

  • Streak should work better with Microsoft. Often you need to run your excel files through Sheets in order for them to be compatible.
  • Having a Dashboard rather than being a tab in your email might add to its usability.

It's a great product. The only thing that holds us back is it was frustrating working with their sales team. We also don't like that when Validity purchased DemandTools they immediately started charging us quite a bit while it had been free for non-profit users when CRMFusion owned it. They also don't let you buy it for just 1 or 2 seats, you have to pay, I believe, in batches of 100 seats.

Help for specific queries not not there. Product tech support is offered. It would be great if query support, even if paid, was offered
The training webinars help with the basics but not much if you need advanced functionality.

It has been years since we looked at other tools, and while I know we reviewed four different solutions when we picked Demand Tools, it has been so long I don't remember who. We are so happy with the product, we have not gone to search for any other alternatives since we started using it over 5 years ago.

HubSpot was almost too freeform, I had a hard time grasping how it could work for me because there was so much that could be changed around. Streak was so easy to figure out without much time invested and I like that it just lives in my Gmail without needing to go to a separate website/login.
