I'm not sure of a scenario where OnSemble wouldn't be appropriate - if you have a company that needs to centralize communication, documentation, and share ideas, it's an excellent choice.
Having worked with other DXP platforms, I find Sitecore to be the most suitable for enterprise-level clients. The platform is highly flexible - both customizable and extendable - making it adaptable to any customer needs or requirements. The platform focuses on the success of both marketing and technical teams, which I don't see on other platforms.
Evoq is very extensible. As long as you can program in ASP.NET, you can customize it for any solution you may need.
It has great user controls and granular permissions for users allowing you to control access not whole sections of the site, individual pages, or even parts of a page.
Some of the modules you can purchase allow you to derive far more value than what you pay.
Ease of Use - with limited html or design experience, I was able to pick up building and updating in our OnSemble portal with minimal struggles.
Customer Service and Support - Passageways employees are hands down the best, always willing to take extra time to dig in, troubleshoot, and resolve any issues in an extremely timely manner. They are always pleasant and super helpful.
Customization - the available site of modules offered allow for a "site" that is suited for the differing needs of each business OnSemble is being used by. From calendars, to document repository, to creating content pages for staff, the possibilities for customization are almost limitless.
Customer Profiles - the ability to identify key features on the site and flag those interactions to tie customer visits back to specific persona types.
Lead Scoring - the ability to establish a funnel for leads and use this funnel to assign a score or qualification within the sales funnel.
Personalization - the ability to tailor experiences to unique customer segments based on their needs, identifiying and optimizing the experience in real-time.
Now that we're customers, the support function is not as strong. If we have a question, we are pointed towards articles so we can "self serve". Sometimes it is important to pick up the phone and talk to someone, which is a service that they've eliminated. Everything is self-help or email ticketing.
When creating the portal, we didn't know what we didn't know. There were some instances that if we hadn't asked a question, we never would have been told about a product/feature that we didn't know we had access to. Our banner almost wasn't implemented in time because the person in charge of it left the company and we didn't know that we needed to follow up on that.
While being able to completely customize the portal is a HUGE strength and not a problem since our implementation team consisted of marketing professionals with design experience, it is also a weakness. If you are tasked with creating the portal but don't have design capabilities, I highly recommend looping in someone who does.
Sitecore is complicated. Software developers need (costly) training to get the most value out of it and business users do not find it intuitive to use. Concepts like the content tree can be difficult for the business users to grasp.
Despite everything being possible in Sitecore, virtually nothing comes out of the box - you need to develop every component and do so within a defined process and framework, which can be a fairly big development overhead.
Even though DNN is a good CMS, I have worked with other CMSs which are far more robust at this point, and would not be overly inclined to select DNN unless cost of the product is the most important factor along with staying on .NET. DNN is a whole package so unless the client has a requirement of including authentication, authorization for users, eCommerce, sticking to something simple is a better option.
Sitecore has proven that it can deliver on its promise of a robust, reliable enterprise CMS solution with plenty of features. Also, they keep updating it with more and better features. Now that we are highly trained on it we have started on getting the most out of it and we plan to keep doing more of that in the future.
Evoq proved to be a solid backbone for our property-management portal, handling ≈300 active rental listings without performance hiccups. The page-builder made it straightforward to craft listing templates that surface photo galleries, floor-plan PDFs, and embedded map pins, while role-based workflows let leasing agents edit unit details (price, availability, pet policy) without touching global site settings—a big win for operational control.
For the management side, the platform’s extensibility let us plug in a third-party rent-payment widget and an automated maintenance-ticket form with minimal custom code. Evoq’s built-in analytics have already highlighted which neighborhoods and bedroom counts drive the most traffic, guiding our marketing spend.
Two caveats:
Search & filter logic – Out-of-the-box search was too shallow for renters who expect Zillow-style filtering. We had to commission a custom module for filter chips (price range, amenities, walk score), which added time and cost. Mobile image optimization – High-resolution gallery images affected load times on 4G; a CDN or Evoq’s Digital Asset Optimizer add-on is advisable.
Overall, Evoq delivers reliable content governance and enough flexibility to support both consumer-facing listings and back-office property-management workflows, provided you budget for advanced search customization and image delivery tuning.
Once you learn how to use the platform and can put a solid strategy in place to manage it long-term, it becomes a lot easier to use. The tricky part is working with resources who are familiar with the platform to navigate some of the common implementation and configuration pitfalls. Although Sitecore has worked very hard to overcome some of these from their earlier product versions by creating wizards and improving their support documentation, at the end of the day it is still a very complex and powerful system that needs to be implemented carefully in order to foster the best possible user experience for authors. So it could be rated very usable or not usable at all based on how much planning took place and the quality of the implementation.
I don't see how it could get any better unless they moved their staff into our offices. You have available to you any type of Support you need or want, both paid and free from thousands of developers and consultants all over the world. You might even find some on Mars if you look hard enough.Also, with all of the available resources available from your Browser you can literally find the answer to any question you have in a matter of minutes.
I have always been pleased with my experiences with OnSemble's Support team. First, they have a great library of articles to help me study and guide for many of my questions. But when I cannot quite comprehend, or I "run into the wall", I can be assured that I'll be contacted quickly with a pleasant voice to work through whatever my question/issue may be. We implemented Sitecore on an Agile project team, which worked very well. We worked closely with the stakeholders for each feature and all features and user stories were prioritized outside of the development team. Anyone trying to implement a website of this magnitude should definitely attempt to do so in as much an Agile fashion as possible.

Having the proper, current form readily available is paramount since many are guided by regulatory dictates.
The corporate directory provides a pix, hire anniversary date, and birthdate (sans year), along with the usual location and contact information. So besides being a tremendous convenience when needing to contact someone, we can meet new people and celebrate life events with one another.
Having "controlled" and "guided" help desks helps manage the extreme variety of information [that] may come in. It helps translate the user's interpretation of the issue into something more understandable.
