Mailchimp is well suited to a situation where you have a stable or known set of recipients to whom you will be sending email updates on a regular basis. Mailchimp is well suited to situations where a lot of information needs to be sent to a lot of different people and organizations at specified times in the future.Mailchimp is not appropriate for one-to-one communication - the higher the scale of interactions from 1 to many the better the software performs.

Hybris fits well into a large development organization and will need many disciplines to fully leverage. It should fit very well into SAP heavy environments and recent roadmaps indicate a tighter and tighter integration in the future. It would be a challenge for a smaller shop to cultivate the kind of knowledge diversity necessary. Getting the initial momentum may also be a challenge if you do not have a good implementation partner, at least in the early stages.

  • Phone support. While the chat function is extremely effective, it can be helpful with certain questions to speak with someone over the phone.
  • I'd like the ability to unsubscribe someone to all campaigns. Currently, if someone unsubscribes to a campaign, they will never receive that exact campaign again. But if their email address is on multiple lists or gets added on another list by someone who is unaware that they unsubscribed, that person will receive another email. Many recipients have been angered by this, telling me that the unsubscribed - which they did - but I have to explain that the process is not universal, and sometimes we forget to include the "exclude" list.
  • The payment structure goes by the number of email addresses that are stored on Mailchimp, so to stay below a certain billing threshold, I have to periodically delete lists of stored email addresses. This gets to be cumbersome because I regularly need to delete and re-upload many of the same lists of people.

  • CMS Cockpit is slow and inefficient for performing certain kinds of content management and template manipulation tasks. I often defer to the HMC, but this is not a feasible option for our client's content management team.
  • The OOTB UI code that ships with v5.0.1 is several years behind industry standard front end technology. v5.1 shows no promise of significant improvements in this arena. Some things I'd like to see: Dropping the Blueprint framework in favor of something Like Bootstrap, Less Framework or AngularJS. Jquery and key dependent plug-ins need to be upgraded and large, over-featured plugins like JQuery UI abandoned. SASS + Compass should replace static CSS. Granule should be dropped in favor of better tools for JS dependency management, code minification, and file concatenation.
  • Maintaining independent codebases for Desktop and Mobile views increases UI development hours by a margin of 30-50%. Natively supporting the option to configure a responsive design with a framework such as AngularJS would offer flexibility to serve up content and site chrome targeted at a wider range of device classes than just desktop machines and mobile phones.

I have, in the 4+ years that I've used Mailchimp, never seen an issue that restricted the use of their software/tools. I don't know of a single time when they're system crashed or went down. I could be wrong, but I honestly haven't experienced any issues with outages, errors or unplanned downtime

I haven't noticed any slow speeds from Mailchimp or their tools. I think the landing pages load quickly and look nice. The email reports and editing operates smoothly and doesn't take time to load. Additionally, when I use Mailchimp in conjunction with Zapier + Hubspot I don't notice any drag between any of these tools

I give this an 8 instead of a 10 because in hindsight, while I am extremely happy with the platform and the things I've learned through my exposure to it, I also see so many areas for improvement in the outcome of my efforts. My advice to front end developers working with Hybris and/or the Java stack for the first time, is to not be intimidated by it. Question everything. Trust your intuition. Do not be afraid to refactor or completely replace something that appears integral to the platform if you see a clear benefit to doing so. It's much less far reaching than you think and the core system will not come crumbling to its knees if you make broad sweeping alterations. In fact, the energy you will expend to retool your site with a new framework will grow in tandem with the amount of time you spend hesitating, and at some point may become critical enough to force your hand while simultaneously becoming risky enough to destabilize your entire project delivery. If you don't like JQuery UI, punt it. If you don't care for the Blueprint CSS framework, burn it down. Making the strategic decision to adopt the toolset that best fits your organization from the very beginning will pay off in spades.

The automation features in Mailchimp vastly outrank any other mail service I've tried so far, and seeing as we often try and teach our clients how to utilize it, I also really appreciate their deep and constantly updated tutorials and documentation. Whenever I've had an issue or problem their support staff, whether over chat or phone have been really helpful and invested in helping solve the issue.

Mailchimp over the years I've used it has grown in leaps and bounds. They have added so many additional features than were previously available. They are truly an all-in-one marketing platform now.If you're a small operation and just want to add email to your marketing efforts, they're there for you. If you're a larger operation and want to start sending postcard advertisements, they can do that. If you'd good with that and want to kick up your marketing by going social, you can do that on their platform. They are truly able to be as small as you need, but also get quite large in whatever it is you'd like to do through their system.

  • Its affordability keeps campaign expenditures low. For the first year of the campaign, we were able to utilize the free service which saved us about $400 on administrative costs. We have just recently upgraded to a payment plan.
  • The ease of using saved templates cuts down on staff time, and even if we decide to use a new template, customizing a template is pretty simple.
  • We have been able to raise $5,000+ from our email campaigns, and that was during the time when we weren't paying for the service.

  • Our business went through 3 major initiatives to migrate our legacy platform and data to Hybris over the course of several years with multiple tech leadership and dev teams. All 3 of these initiatives failed to launch, largely due to the complexity of the platforms and massively associated tech burdon. A 4th re-platforming succeeded in launching an MVP version with support from expensive consulting firms and to the tune of millions of dollars.
  • Due to the inflexibility of the content management features, marketing teams are severely limited and have had to seek 3rd-party software to layer on top of Hybris to deliver modern customer experiences.
