BigCommerce Essential for B2C Sales

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I work for a company that has many different brands spanning a few different industries, from durable medical equipment to veterinary care items. BigCommerce provides us a consistent platform to house the various brand sites and their robust ecommerce tools make selling on the platform a breeze. We love how responsive their support teams are, and how compatible with third party apps BigCommerce has proven to be.

Pros

  • eCommerce
  • Web site building
  • CMS for brands

Cons

  • Ability to add more than one promo code
  • Saveable carts
  • Better UX for using the Option Sets functionality

Return on Investment

  • Since migrating from Wix, sales are up 500%
  • Streamlined operations by building all sites on BigCommerce
  • We've seen AOV increase for our Glucose SOS brand by 25% since migrating to BigCommerce

BigCommerce A solid B2B Platform

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

BigCommerce is our B2B website that handles 100% of our customer transactions. It's an easy one-stop shop, and has B2B features that support large chains (e.g. Sr./Jr. Buyer)

Pros

  • Their B2B portal is set up for larger chains who have complex buying systems
  • Their templates are well thought out and easy to use and implement into the market place
  • Pretty good and responsive customer service

Cons

  • Although solid, they still struggle with their B2B module. Not a lot of expertise in this part of the biz
  • Sometimes their responsiveness to "glitches" in their system is slow.
  • Sometimes when they roll out new features, they have bugs, so we're never too eager to adopt their new features until some time has passed. Sometimes will feel like the guinea pigs.

Return on Investment

  • We've grown every year 15%+ for the last 4 years. BigCommerce has been an important reason for this growth.
  • The user interface is pretty intuitive, so we have most of our employees using BigCommerce for a wide variety of instances.
  • The cost of ownership for BC is very reasonable.

Moved away from Magento because of the work involved with upkeep. Switching to BigCommerce saved me a ton of time from constantly having to update for security. Have had 99.9999% uptime.

Pros

  • Security
  • Speed
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Returns working for buyer portal
  • Avalara tax exempt connection
  • Ability to tokenize and vault guest checkout

Return on Investment

  • It saved me time on upkeep
  • Easy update on frontend
  • Minimized downtime

Disappointing Experience Dishonest Customer Support

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Hosting our e-commerce website, managing customer accounts and orders, products, web pages, etc. Our digital storefront and theme is delivered by BigCommerce, and we use the limited native functionality to create a customer experience. We have a custom menu taxonomy, blog, and various third-party apps to manage subscriptions, reward points, and similar offerings.

Pros

  • Simplicity
  • Product Listing
  • Load time

Cons

  • Functionality
  • Customer Support
  • Analytics
  • Native functions
  • Reporting
  • Customizations
  • User interface

Return on Investment

  • Negatively impacted project timelines due to long wait times on support cases and resolutions
  • Increased costs as many functions/features that would be expected to be native had to be delivered by paid third-party solutions, apps, or customizations

Great e-commerce solution for small business

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used BigCommerce for just over two years for our e-commerce website. Our previous website was hosted on a platform which required significant experience and expertise to effectively manage. We can now manage the required website updates in-house with very little external help required. Our website functions with Avalara to calculate a customers local tax in all countries and provides excellent customer facing usability.

Pros

  • Catalog management
  • Customer experience
  • Simple UI for management of pages

Cons

  • The link with Acumatica does not handle special characters well, sometimes adding multiple characters where one is supposed to be.
  • Google ads integration is a bit clumsy.

Return on Investment

  • Sales were up by 15% in the first year after switching.
  • Cost was much lower than our previous website
