What is Equatio?

Equatio is an equation editor used to create digital, accessible math, and is designed to save time, lower stress and eliminate frustration.

Equatio aims to create accessible learning experiences in math and science, so that students get choice in the tools that they need to succeed. This includes having math read aloud, using 'math to speech' and visualizing math problems with geometric shapes, manipulatives, and dynamic graphs. Equatio also provides students and teachers with a collaborative and digital space to allow students to work freely and show their thinking.

Equatio also aims to remove barriers to inclusive math, helps to create independent learners, and lets students choose to engage with math and science in a way that suits them best.

Children are able to draw and write accurate mathematical symbols which means their work is presented clearly and effectively. They are able to work independently and use Google tools to enhance their learning.

Students are able to better demonstrate their knowledge of content. For example, using visuals to demonstrate the steps of solving equations and then allowing students to use the visual steps to complete others on their own has been impactful and increased student independence.

This allowed us to increase students inputting math digitally for assessment and for student work. Since it has handwriting recognition, it allowed students to write the math but the teacher be able to easily read it after it converted the text into clear characters. As well, the ability to go back and make changes made life much easier for them to continue to make updates to assignments and activities afterwards.

In one of our math classes, students were struggling to access the material in their textbook and share their knowledge on a worksheet. When we switched to Equatio, students were suddenly able to comprehend more clearly their tasks, share what they understood with their teacher, and communicate where they needed additional support.

some students regularly use it to insert the math for assignments - when fine motor is difficult their work is easily read by the teacher and often lined up properly (some stacking of math problems don't line up properly - addition, subtraction and multiplying of 2-3 digit numbers)
