  • For beginner, choosing MySQL will save them a lot of time onboarding our projects
  • We have also have dedicated team to support MySQL and they build strong infrastructure that makes the process of setting up a new MySQL database much easier. Anyone who needs a new MySQL database can finish the entire process in minutes.

  • As it is an open source solution through community solution, we can use it in a multitude of projects without cost license
  • The acquisition by Oracle makes you need to contract support for the enterprise version
  • If you have knowledge about oracle databases, you can get more out of the enterprise version

  • MySQL allowed us to get going early on with a relational database at very little cost.
  • MySQL fit very nicely within our early tech stack and didn't require changes or impose any disruptions.
  • MySQL is well supported and can run anywhere - switching cloud providers is a non-issue.

  • 100% cost savings when applied the right DB technology for the right application.
  • Less known, recommended and considered by most enterprise systems developers.
  • DBAs work more on scripting due to lack of easily available tools for DB maintenance.

  • Flexibility - it's easy to use and the documentation is easy to find on the internet. There are many tutorials to help you improve.
  • Accessibility - when you're doing a school project, it's better to use MySQL because other products are not free. When you have a student or a startup budget, it helps!

  • Negative impact is that MySQL does not support Analytics. We have to transfer/replicate data to another DB to be able to do Analytics or use Analytics applications.
  • The positive impact is that it's cheap/affordable.
