Experience with TIBCO BPM Enterprise

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have implemented TIBCO BPM Enterprise for moving some of the day to day activities in a more organized way. For many processes, requests and approvals were being taken manually. With the help of TIBCO BPM Enterprise, we moved it to a Maker Checker flow. Requests are being created in BPM and with LDAP integration, approval notifications are also being sent making it easier for the approvers to taken action on the pending items.

Pros

  • Integration with corporate LDAP
  • Reporting using BPM event capturing
  • Email notifications and reminder emails
  • Easy integration with Custom UI
  • User Role Management

Cons

  • Out of the box forms can be updated to a new and better version
  • Java Script supports a limited functionality. It needs to allow use of more features of Java Script
  • Testing can be done only after deployment. There should be some way to do a basic test without the need for deployment

Return on Investment

  • Processing was faster with the use of TIBCO BPM Enterprise
  • More organized way of doing things
  • History was maintained, helped in reporting
  • Can be difficult to understand for some using the tool for the first time

ActiveMatrix BPM to be next generation TIBCO BPM, nearly

Pros

  • Good process design, clear and new generation Eclipse interface
  • Different levels of data within the process, case management at its full extent
  • Capabilities driven task assignment, no more limits to users & groups

Cons

  • Architecture is quite complex, not that easy to set up and run
  • Still a lot of room to be as stable in production as iProcess was
  • Albeit in version 4 it still feels not mature enough for critical applications

Return on Investment

  • Project management with ActiveMatrix is more costly than it was with iProcess
  • Process definition is easier if you rely on capabilities and not user/roles
  • Can implement nearly any kind of business process, executing it really well on the very complex
  • Superb integration

Other Software Used

TIBCO BusinessWorks, TIBCO Enterprise Message Service, TIBCO Rendezvous, Elasticsearch, Apache Spark, Logstash, Cloudera Manager

A precious product...

Pros

  • Workspace and Openspace Console that offers a powerful method for troubleshooting and viewing the routing within a process
  • Easy representation of the corporate organization
  • Powerful IDE to design a business process as a TIBCO Business Studio BPM Edition
  • Testing and Debugging

Cons

  • Improvement of the simulation

Return on Investment

  • The managment of the roles is very positive.
  • The resumption of the processes in error is very powerful and it has a fantastic impact.
  • The high resource consumption can to be a problem, but in any case for such a powerful product it is inevitable.

Little experience with a product

Pros

  • Creating a good corporate management system
  • Good phase of logging and management of every business process
  • Good correlation with database drivers

Cons

  • Limited customization of movement validation flows

Return on Investment

  • In order to create a BPM management, you need to make a very solid data management model, which becomes very important in its reuse
  • The business process is very often unconnected with the implementation logic and therefore plays in favor of the re-usability of the software
  • Large customization at log level for which managing these tools can be handled minimizing effort
