Overall Satisfaction with Intuit Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp to manage our email subscriber database and send out a weekly email newsletter, as well as additional emails as needed. We use its API to power a newsletter sign-up form on our website. Additionally, we have a Mailchimp-native form that collects email addresses and adds subscribers to our list.

Pros

  • Subscriber and list management is excellent, keeping our list fresh and increasing deliverability.
  • The drag-and-drop editor is ideal for non-technical users to create visually appealing email campaigns that render well on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • Reporting is highly detailed and useful, providing us with precise information on who is interacting with our emails and offering a comprehensive overview for each campaign.
  • Support has (mostly) been proactive and helpful when the occasional issue arises (there haven't been many).

Cons

  • The drag-and-drop editor is generally good, but some recent changes have made it more difficult to use.
  • Mailchimp rolls out UI and UX changes to its editor without notifying users. It's great when something is improved, but annoying when you're working on an email and all of a sudden, the thing you relied on no longer works the same way it did before.
  • Many of the new features they've rolled out recently appear not to have been properly QA'd and don't work well. Mailchimp eventually seems to deploy a fix, but they shouldn't have ever made it to production.
  • Time savings: the ability to quickly design and test an email campaign and not get bogged down with things like custom templates.
  • We consistently achieve an open rate significantly higher than the industry standard for our business, which we attribute to our effective list management.
  • API and forms allow us to grow our list in a subscriber-first manner effectively. We ensure that we use all opt-in options to maintain a clean list.
We do not currently use those features, although we have some familiarity with them, and they seem to work well when needed. Our main list is pretty simple, so we haven't had the need or opportunity to segment or target recipients. It's good to know the tools exist in case we ever need them.
  • Sign-up forms
  • Campaign templates
  • Email marketing
  • Reporting
These features have helped us achieve our goals, the primary of which is to drive traffic to our website and social media content. We also use Mailchimp to provide email marketing services for our clients and find that it's an effective way to deliver their message to our audience, provided it aligns with our list, of course.
The drag-and-drop editor improves our efficiency, as we can start with a basic template and then tweak it or add new layouts and sections as needed. This significantly enhances our efficiency when creating email campaigns, allowing us to essentially have pre-tested template components that we don't need to code and maintain ourselves.
Mailchimp has scaled well as our list has grown. The list management tools were invaluable when migrating from a previous solution that lacked similar resources, ultimately making our list more efficient. Although the overall subscriber numbers dropped significantly, our engagement and open rates increased proportionally.
I give it a solid seven because, overall, it is easy to use, especially with list management, maintenance, and campaign organization. The editor needs some improvement, mostly in the way it introduces new features or UI changes, some of which seem to have been inadequately tested. Additionally, UI features can disappear or be fundamentally altered without notice, which is frustrating.
Although Mailchimp's pricing has increased recently, we opted to stick with them after evaluating these and a few other platforms because, overall, their combination of features and pricing is superior. Additionally, we must consider the time and effort required to migrate to a new system and create new lists and templates.
