Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity
We use Paylocity to track employees time, process payroll, assist in recruiting and onboarding and are in process to roll out new functionalities with open enrollment and benefits coordination.
Pros
- Ease of use
- Availability of reports
- Good customer service and support
Cons
- Does not interface with our 403 (b) provider, an API would be useful
- Does not interface with our current Financial software, again an API would be useful
- Reduced overall time to process and monitor payroll
- Eliminated manual steps in the payroll and HR processes
- Improved management visibility into metrics related to staffing and retention
Tracking of open jobs, including candidates, has improved. The real time org chart preparation is very helpful. Being about to house related documents in the employee's profile is also very helpful.
We are able to broadcast policy updates and changes to employees in real time, requesting that they review and sign off. This used to be done manually through email and pen and paper, so this change has been very helpful!
Paylocity's responsiveness and ease of use far outpaces both other solutions!

Evaluating Paylocity and Competitors
- Ease of Use
Ease of use for admins AND employees was the biggest key for us.
Likely would not have changed the process - it yielded good results!
Paylocity Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal - It's best to have policies and procedures well documented before implementing; that way you only need to adjust your documentation to what the system can or can't do. It's also key to be flexible and try to use the system as it's designed for as much as possible.
- Some of our time off policies were not native to Paylocity but were able to be navigated pretty simply
Paylocity Training
Configuring Paylocity
Nothing specific, however touch points with an account manager to discuss what's been working/not working with the system 3-6 months after implementation would be helpful. The AM is available on call, but having that set up, similar to implementation, would be helpful.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
Some - we have added small pieces of custom code - We had to add codes for unique PTO policies that we have; configuration was relatively easy, but it led to manual steps on the back end of the process.

Paylocity Support
Pros | Cons |

Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved Kept well informed No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
No, I don't believe that we did. We wanted to see how the basic function / set up would work with the option to add the premium support later if necessary.
Needed to run a bonus payroll at year end with employees expected to receive a flat amount ($100, $500, $1,000). Paylocity's net to gross spreadsheet made this EXTREMELY easy. Something that previously took hours was done in minutes. And this was all discovered by a support call to Paylocity!
Using Paylocity

Like to use Relatively simple Easy to use Technical support not required Well integrated Consistent Quick to learn Convenient Feel confident using Familiar | None |
- Payroll processing
- Timecard correction / approval
- Expense management is easy to use for both users and admin

Yes - Most staff only use the mobile interface, and it appears to work very well for them.
Paylocity Reliability
Integrating Paylocity
- Previously, attempted to integrate with GL; have upgraded GL but have not yet integrated
No deep yet - we have updated other systems and will be looking to tie Paylocity in to them, yet it has not been done at present.
- General Ledger
- EHR
- 403 (b) system (Pen Serv)
- MS Power BI
Not certain of the top 2, but I know that there is not an available API for our 403 (b) program, which IS a limitation in our use of the Paylocity system.
- File import/export
- API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
None that I know of.
Uncertain - our exposure at present is only limited in scope.
Relationship with Paylocity
Not much negotiation - the standard contract worked well for our needs.
The salesperson makes all the difference. The one with which we worked was top notch and ensured that we made it through implementation to full usage well.
