Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Online
Our company uses QuickBooks Online for all of our billing and financial reporting. We currently have 5 active users, 4 of which are for project managers on our team, and then one account for our accountant to monitor activity for tax/accounting purposes. Primarily though, QuickBooks is used for sending out invoices for work completed.
- Online access
- Financial analytics
- Tracking tools for sent invoices
- More customization for forms.
- More intuitive navigation of settings panels.
- Ability for advanced users to modify coding within invoice calculation structure.
- Customization for branding.
- QuickBooks has given us a useful portal by which to get an overview of our financials.
- QuickBooks has given us a relatively easy way to send out invoices quickly and efficiently.
- Due to the customization limitations on QuickBooks, we've had to get creative in third-party implementations to better represent our brand and to track financials.

While QuickBooks Online is generally easy to navigate, there are some features and functions that often require a Google search in order to find out where they are actually hidden. Additionally, there are some simple customization features that are surprisingly not available for an otherwise advanced program (e.g. only having a pool of 4 fonts to choose from, only having 4 very limited templates for invoicing, not color selection, etc). While I would say that about 75% of users shouldn't have a problem finding their way around with basic functions, there is a learning curve if you want to be able to dive into some of the more useful features, almost to the point that you need to have a dedicated account manager in order to use QuickBooks Online most effectively.
QuickBooks Online support is timely in their responses and generally helpful, but there are occasions where, given the limitations of the platform, they often can't help with a solution and just give the pad answer of "we'll send that feature request to our development team." I also wish there was a live, in app chat feature when I needed especially timely help.
QuickBooks has long been a standard when it's come to small business accounting. Their tools work, the user interface is fairly intuitive to navigate, and it has suited the needs of our small business (11-20 employees) for the past 10 years. However, as we continue to grow and come into a greater need to control our branding, we find that QuickBooks Online often limits us in customization and branding. Plus, it just has some odds quirks in the coding of how the invoices are setup up that often requires us to "fight against the system" in order to accomplish what we want in our invoice structure.
