Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business (formerly Lync)

We use Skype as our phone system, internal chat, as well as video calling method. We use it across the entire organization, including reaching other companies within our company.

Pros

  • Instant messaging.
  • Availability status.
  • Email alternative.
  • Calling.

Cons

  • There is no continuity between the desktop and mobile apps.
  • No group functionality, but I suppose that's why Teams exists.
  • Saves us a bunch of money over using handsets.
The internal chat and video calls are great. Jive doesn't have that. It requires a GoToMeeting subscription for video calling.
It is very reliable, so I haven't needed to call support which says a lot about its quality.

Yes

Skype for Business is great for simple softphone and chat. For tighter grouping, you may want to consider something like Slack or Teams.
