Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Our organization uses Slack for everything. Every project has it's own Slack channel and we have channels devoted to company announcements, updates, culture, and even one for goofy/fun chat. Slack has allowed the organization as a whole to become much more organized around every single project. The available notification settings are great to allow individuals to set things up in a way that fits their work style. The mobile app is also very solid so that everyone can be in the loop while on the go. Certain project teams also have Slack channels with our clients, which makes communication between the organizations incredibly simple and efficient.
  • The interface is very easy to understand and intuitive.
  • The mobile app is just as good as the desktop app, which is rare for a communication software.
  • It allows you to easily share files/documents with one or multiple individuals.
  • It makes it easy to find older conversations when needed or relevant.
  • A better search feature to find things across numerous channels more efficiently.
  • I do not know anything about the pricing, but it isn't free.
  • The only other con I can think of is that it doesn't have (I don't believe) a voice to text feature to be able to respond quicker while on the go.
  • For the company as a whole, quicker and more efficient communication.
  • Project organization
  • Personal organization
We used to use a combo of Google Hangouts, email, and the GroupMe app for all internal communications. Slack has completely eliminated those and we use Slack for all internal communication—we don't even use email for the most part unless communicating with a client. If you work with tech savvy people, Slack also has slackbot which allows you to integrate with almost anything (JIRA, HubSpot, etc.) and save a ton of time through automation of tasks.
It is well suited at any small or mid size organization that has multiple ongoing projects with employees working across projects. It allows for improved organization in such companies because you can have the whole team on a project channel so everyone can remain in the loop on any and all progressions—gone are the days of people being able to claim ignorance for not getting something done. Yet, you can still message one or a couple of people at anytime with questions or thoughts that don't apply to the whole project team. I am sure it could work within larger organizations but I have not seen it done.
