Overall Satisfaction with UserTesting

We are using UserTesting across multiple teams. It is mainly used by design researchers and designers. We use it to recruit users, handle payment, and get feedback on our products. We also use it to test concepts or have 1:1 interviews with our target users.
  • Quick responses. When we send out a test, we normally get all of our tests back within a day or so (depending on the screener), which is great for quick timelines and feedback.
  • Ease of setting up a test. Putting in your screener questions and setting up your test is user-friendly and very easy to complete. You can also duplicate a test, which has helped us a lot in the past.
  • Customer support. When we have an issue with a test or participant, customer support is always very helpful and quick to respond. They're no-questions-asked when we ask to replace a test for any reason.
  • We've come across some participants who are there to sneak by screeners and are there to make money. These users aren't our target and it's frustrating to have to replace tests when that happens.
  • As a tech company, we are also looking for niche or technical users. Sometimes they're hard to find and takes a while to recruit. We also sometimes get the same users taking multiple of our tests because there are only so many of certain types of people in the pool.
  • The transcript is hard to go through. We have a lot of abbreviations and technical terms that the transcription doesn't pick up.
  • Increased conversion rates.
  • Cost savings in the fact that we're getting feedback along the way instead of building the wrong product for our users.
  • One of our objectives is to talk to users, so this is an easy and accessible way to do that.
Customer support is very quick to respond to any request. Sometimes we have technical difficulties or a wrong user comes through and takes the test. When I reach out to customer support about this, they replace or add an additional test to my study with no questions asked. They are also very responsive when I reach out with a question.
Creating a screener and a test plan are very easy and user friendly to do. Previewing the test is a little more difficult since you have to go through the whole test instead of just previewing one task. Also, it takes over your whole screen. I also really enjoy going through the metrics tab; it provides good information and is easy to read.
We have benefitted by getting quick feedback mid-design process. We don't have to set up a big recruiting effort and budget a lot of time by vetting people and bringing them in person. We can move our development process faster because we can easily create a test and send it out for feedback. Most participants are really good at giving feedback and have given us some great insights.
UserTesting is great if your user is more of a general type of person. If you're looking for highly technical or specialized job roles, you may not find what you're looking for. Also, you can't vet a user before they take your test so you have to trust in your screener or trust in customer service replacing the test for you.
