Overall Satisfaction with UserTesting
We mainly use UserTesting for two things: 1. Product discovery (generative research) on customer insights to find pain points and evaluate high-level product/feature ideas or terminology feedback, and 2. Evaluative research, such as doing usability evaluations of clickable prototypes to test for intuitiveness or to get feedback on feature ideas shown through text descriptions and/or mocked-up screenshots.
Pros
- Has a large bank of survey respondents.
- Has many different test methodology options.
- Summarizes results automatically.
Cons
- The seat license cost is very high.
- The in-test UI for testers could be improved.
- UserTesting allows us to get design and product feedback faster.
- UserTesting helps ensure we're building things that people want, thus reducing wasted dev time.
We usually set screeners so that only our target demographic, such as entry-level workers or early-career workers, takes our tests, which gives us more authentic credible feedback to improve our new product/feature ideas before spending dev time building them. It has also helped us decide what to build by getting quick feedback on low-fi ideas or even text descriptions of them.
