Considered Both Products
BrightEdge
Chose BrightEdge
BrightEdge has better reports and customizable charts and is better for larger teams. Semrush, you have to pay per user, but it does give you access to a variety of tools. BrightEdge is more focused on SEO, but the tools they have are great, and some of them are the most …
Chose BrightEdge
I see a lot of similarities with the other two products. Personally, I think a big aspect of using BrightEdge is familiarity with the platform. Just like any of these SEO tools, the value from these comes with how efficient users can be with the interface. BrightEdge has a …
Chose BrightEdge
seoClarity was one platform that we would have transitioned to if they would have been able to provide a solution like BrightEdge Instant. Out of all the platforms we have evaluated, the one thing that keeps us coming back to BrightEdge is the robust amount of relevant keywords …
Chose BrightEdge
While relatively expensive, Brightedge really does offer the best quality product but just as importantly (if not more so) the level of client/agency support. We have biweekly training with the entire team to continually stay up to date on Brightedge's offerings and strategies. …
Chose BrightEdge
I haven't used any other products like BrightEdge, although my colleague has and he seems to think BrightEdge is the number 1 product for all things 'SEO'.
Chose BrightEdge
We initially selected BrightEdge, as we thought that it would be a simple way to optimize our web pages for search. A few months into it, we felt otherwise and within the first year, we decided to not renew our contract when it came up for renewal. Basically, the majority of …
Chose BrightEdge
BrightEdge is able to do more in many ways - it's a more comprehensive tool for SEO keyword research (at least based on my personal experience) and also is able to present dashboards online, which was a major hurdle for us using the locally-installed version of AWR which could …
Chose BrightEdge
Both are good tools. The biggest difference comes in your needs. Like I said earlier, BrightEdge is an enterprise tools and has the features set to support that. Moz is a consumer product and it a great place to start, but the analytics integration, tracking, reporting …
Google Search Console
Chose Google Search Console
GSC does not give you as much information as a paid tool, but it does give you direct clicks to keywords which these other tools have no way of knowing.
Chose Google Search Console
To be honest, I have not spent much time in Bing Webmaster Tools as Bing is a much less significant search engine compared to Google. It's something we only really use for major changes to a website, and it is fine for those types of task. Google Search Console is my 'go-to' …

BrightEdge is great for large companies and large SEO teams since it's pricey but worth it if you have a large team or organization using it. For small businesses, I would use a different tool like Semrush because of the price and the variety of tools it offers.

There are lots of tools and platforms that help us rank well on search engines. While that is helpful, we do need to know how those efforts paid off. This is where Google Search Console comes in. It is vital for every business or website trying to rank well on search engines to have Google Search Console so that they can track their performance and make necessary adjustments.

Pros
BrightEdge
  • Instant - Keyword research tool is by far our team's favorite item on the platform
  • DataCube - We are able to uncover competitive gaps and hone in on specific sets of pages using filters containing our business product assortment attribute.
  • Professional services have been attentive when asking for changes

  • You can also submit your sitemap directly to Google and get it crawled.
  • You can also index and crawl you updated and new webpages.
  • It also displays errors that are preventing your site pages to get indexed in Google.
  • You get a list of all the keywords for which your site is ranking.
  • You can track its position, CTR and impressions.

Cons
BrightEdge
  • The storybuilder feature isn't anything outstanding. I feel like I can get the same type of data and format from Google Data Studio.
  • I feel like the Hyperlocal feature is still very junior compared to other features. It provides you good insights, but you have to set all the data fields before you can get a picture as well as it doesn't really give you an idea of how you can improve.
  • The mobile SEO solution is a good concept, but it needs some tweaks to be better, especially when building out a mobile story builder. Some of the data isn't simple to read and the mobile keywords functions don't also account for voice searches.

  • It can be a little difficult to navigate
  • More training resources would be an asset. A beginner is given the power to completely destroy a sites search results at the push of a button. Likewise it is a powerful tool to enhance search results also.
  • An option to take care of multiple versions of the same site simultaneously would be helpful. An option to use the same validation script across all versions and administer them simultaneously would be a time save (i.e. non-www, www, http://, and https:// versions of the same site).

I would renew, as I don't feel there is a product out there that would have the impact on our SEO efforts as effectively as BrightEdge. It provides the information I need and integrates with other tools like Google Webmaster Tools, to truly have the depth of information that makes their suggestions for SEO changes so valued.

Usability
BrightEdge
Because it depends on the feature, it's either easier or not to use. Some of them, not being particularly friendly, I no longer use, and I focus on the ones where insights are easy to understand and data seems well-elaborated.

It's easy to use, but some features are lacking a clear explanation. Somethings don't always match up. For example, the Core Web Vitals often doesn't match what you would see in the Chrome Lighthouse report or the Google Page Speed Insights tool. The tool itself is a little too basic and has to be used alongside other SEO tools and other Google properties such as Analytics

Support Rating
BrightEdge
This is a area where the BrightEdge team really shines. Their commitment to training and product support is unmatched not only for SEO platforms, but life in general. I often find myself wishing my internet provide and similar would go to BrightEdge for training on support and attitude. I would rank them an 11 if I could.

As with all Google software, your primary source of help is their forums, their knowledge base articles, or whatever tutorials you can find on the web. Often answers on their forums are not straightforward and may not address the actual issue you're experiencing. The KB articles are typically written like instruction manuals - for better or for worse. Tutorials on the web may vary, but the odds are good someone out there had the same questions as you and was kind enough to document their experience.

While relatively expensive, Brightedge really does offer the best quality product but just as importantly (if not more so) the level of client/agency support. We have biweekly training with the entire team to continually stay up to date on Brightedge's offerings and strategies. They also offer the ability to do ad hoc reporting using some of their tools that can help us win new business and recommend Brightedge to additional clients, expanding our business as well.

SEMRush is a supplementary tool we use to provide competitive analysis. While it does, or should, provide the same data that Search Console does, but I only fully trust Search Console when it comes to basic performance in Google for the sites we develop and own. SEMRush, and other products like it, does provide much more in-depth insights that can help drive business decisions, including site performance on other search engines, along putting organic and paid search performance in one spot. However, SEMRush costs money while Search Console is free.

Return on Investment
BrightEdge
  • We have only started with BE a few months ago and so I don't have any hard numbers from an ROI perspective, but i can say that what we spent on BE is a fraction of what we were spending with agencies and we are actually getting results by doing this ourselves. From that perspective we have seen a cost savings.
  • With focused SEO campaigns and projects we have been able to move the needle on our SEO rankings for specific products and services. This is going to have a great impact for us in 2019 as we have some specific product goals and campaigns for 2019 that we have been working to build up over the last couple months of 2018.

  • Given that this is a free tool, the return on investment has been particularly high - we've identified and addressed a few site issues that could have meant a reduction in search traffic.
  • Our organic search traffic has been on the rise in part due to the insights gained from the search traffic analytics provided within the console.
