We have used CLEAR, LexisNexis, Paynet (Equifax), and Zoom info. I would say D&B is compatible with LexisNexis, but less competitive with CLEAR and Paynet (Equifax). Paynet (Equifax) is much more applicable as it provides credit history on term debt, which is the area we …

We evaluated Recurly early on but rejected it because at the time it did not support the payment gateway we needed, and lacked some metered billing stuff that we needed. I understand they now have improved, but we did not go back to re-try them.

Chose Maxio
I was not part of the decision to select Chargify.
Chose Maxio

Chargify met a list of set requirements and our budget at the time. The main items were:

  1. Salesforce integration
Chose Maxio
We previously used another recurring processor. Although their product worked well and was much cheaper, their customer service became increasingly less responsive. Chargify's API is equally easy to implement as our previous recurring payment processor..

Pricing ends up being pretty close across the board with their main competitors. What it came down to for us is having a vendor that went the extra mile and we felt that Chagify met that and they have exceeded that expectation.

D&B Finance Analytics is helpful with determining a customer's credit worthiness when our customer has data reported. We are a Wholesale Durable Goods company and we prefer to see data reflecting Trade Payments that show Wholesale Durable and/or Non-Durable Goods to help us see how they pay their Trade Payments. I also like to see the Maximum Credit Recommendation, however, in some instances I tend to disagree just based on customer history with us as well as the lack of data for Trade Payments. I would (and have) definitely recommend this program to colleagues.

SaaSOptics is awesome for growing companies that want to automate their invoicing. I like that it is also aimed at subscription based sales structures rather than sales that occur at a single point in time (but has the ability to support both). SaaSOptics makes it super easy to keep track of subscriptions, renewals, co-terms, etc. The reporting is a great feature, but we are unable to use most of the reports as we are a cash-based accounting firm. SO caters to accrual accounting and GAAP compliant firms which makes sense as it is the most commonly accepted accounting basis here in the US, but many small SaaS start-ups are still operating on cash basis. We are one of those companies, so we are able to get a ton of use out of the invoicing side of things, a lot of the reports are useless for us. We also wish SO had a commission module since we already integrate our CRM and accounting softwares into it, but that is not a make it or break it for us. We love the time SO has saved us.

Recurly is great for tracking transactions and reviewing payment method declines. The platform is extremely helpful when dealing with scenarios where someone believes they have been fraudulently charged for the product. Recurly allows for transaction filtering, which is very helpful when trying to find possibly fraudulent charges very easy. If expecting precise, detailed information about a card decline, Recurly would not be very helpful.

Pros
  • Custom Scores
  • Finding Companies through Search or Advanced Search. It's got an easy search bar. And then for example, we have companies all over the world that come to us. And so we can just choose the country, for example, and then write the name in there and it'll bring up a lot of different companies that maybe are exactly that name or close to that name. And when we see what we believe to be the actual company, we can click on it and then know whether they are credit worthy.
  • Great UX on the website - fast and easy to use. The speed with which it operates is really terrific and very important for us because we usually have to make that decision right away.
  • Using something as objective as a numerical score simplifies decisions about offering credit. We have to make a decision usually on whether to offer credit to an advertiser quickly. So what's wonderful about the process is that we don't have to be searching around on Google or any kind of review site and then try to discern whether they're credit worthy. We simply open up the D&B Finance Analytics tool.

  • Chargify's API is solid and easy to use, including JSON and XML interfaces.

  • Recurly is very easy to use. Their UI is very clean and intuitive, so my staff has no problem understanding how to handle payments in Recurly. They just released a new UI, which is currently in Beta, but does an even better job making the user experience great.
  • Recurly really helps reduce the time involved in collecting payment from a client. They have a dunning process which detects when a transaction has failed, and automatically re-tries running the payment several times before giving up. Recurly gives you full flexibility on how the dunning process works, including the ability to send your client payment declined notifications every few days to inspire them to update their payment info.
  • Recurly just added a new feature which can automatically update credit card information from clients whose card has expired. They ping the credit card company (visa, MC, AMEX, Discover) to retrieve new card information for cards who have just gone past their expiration dates. This is extremely handy, and has reduced the number of times we've had to contact our client to get updated billing information.
  • Recurly has excellent customer service. You can chat with an agent and receive an instant reply to your questions. I love this.

Cons
  • Provide EIN number of the business to ensure you are viewing the correct business.
  • Have an easier, clearer way to view a parent company and its subsidiaries or a main entity and its other addresses, so basically clearly define if it is the same entity.

  • We have contracts that are 12 months long but customers pay monthly. When terms change (raise or lower price) mid contract, changes are not easy.
  • AR collection was an issue. However, SaaSOptics just released a report to track outstanding invoices and it works great.
  • Integration with QuickBooks is OK but it isn't straightforward to issue a credit memo for a particular customer.

  • I would like it if an agent accessed Recurly for any reason that it tracks it using the agent's name or login information.
  • The time stamp on refunds processed can be confusing as it sometimes shows midnight when we don't, as such, I would like to see a change in that.
  • Would like if the report for transitioned showed who completed the transition.

Usability
Very easy to access, and the reports are generally intuitive and clearly understandable. Some minor issues with entering data, nothing that would keep me from using this software, though. The databases it draws from are robust, and I can generally find the information I need, or get pointed to that information as a result of studying the report.

Apart from a lot of scope, which it has for improvement, like analytics, api's, customer service, downtimes. It still provides a lot of value, it is helpful for us in Business crtical areas, managing subscriptions and creating and launching coupons, ease of usability, camparatively lower maintainence are some valid reasons to prefer Recurly.

They are willing to help with most challenges and are pretty easy to get ahold of by phone. They are limited in their reach, when it comes to bulk cancellations, along with some other bulk edits. It is no fault to them, Chargify is just a system that hasn’t been upgraded much over the years.

We have used CLEAR, LexisNexis, Paynet (Equifax), and Zoom info. I would say D&B is compatible with LexisNexis, but less competitive with CLEAR and Paynet (Equifax). Maxio (via information we found on their website and in the initial sales call) seemed like the most comprehensive fit at the time and we liked the interface. We eventually found out that there was a massive gap between what was promised us and what was actually delivered. Below is an excerpt to an email that we sent to the technical solutions consultant and sales rep three months after purchase: "I am, however, frustrated that a solution promised in the demo call ended up being a solution that was so cumbersome that 1) no one knew how to implement it except [tech consultant], who I was never able to get ahold of 2) it delayed our launch by two months and resulted in real frustration for my team and thousands of dollars in lost revenue and 3) brought more effort and annoyance to our customers than we were anticipating. I'm bringing this to your attention because I strongly feel that there has been a discrepancy between possible solutions and actual solutions. It is frustrating to make a purchase decision based on features discussed during a demo call, develop a plan of action based on what was discussed, and then have to iterate for months on end. It is also frustrating to hear that something is an "easy" solution by one team member and then hear it is "difficult and not recommended" by another."
