HCL Digital Experience vs. Pegboard vs. Sitecore Digital Experience Platform

IBM Web Content Manager is well suited for intranet employee portals, websites which drive extensive marketing content, and e-commerce sites to provide product images and details. It cannot be used a document management system to store large volumes of data as it's purely a web content management system.

The Pegboard CMS is ideal for a sophisticated website that needs to be unique in design and that offers the highest level of functionality and a superior user experience. It is suitable for websites ranging from simple blogs, through to corporate and fully-featured eCommerce websites that have the ability to utilise intelligent eMarketing to subscribers

Having worked with other DXP platforms, I find Sitecore to be the most suitable for enterprise-level clients. The platform is highly flexible - both customizable and extendable - making it adaptable to any customer needs or requirements. The platform focuses on the success of both marketing and technical teams, which I don't see on other platforms.

• The Pegboard platform does not limit the design and feel of a website. As web designers and developers we have the ability to design a unique looking website through the construction of HTML template pages which are then integrated with the Pegboard CMS.
• The Pegboard platform provides a large range of modules for integration by designers into a website. The modules that are used depend on the requirements of the website - there is no limit to the number of modules that can be used.
• The online CMS management console is easy to use. A client can manage their website content with as little as a half day training session.
• The Pegboard CMS is a high-end web platform that provides the opportunity to integrate a company’s back-end systems like CRM, accounting and inventory software with their website - providing a business administration efficiencies.
• The Pegboard CMS provides all of the modules that other CMS provide and include: News, RSS feeds, advanced forms, SEO, blog, banner ads, document management, SMS enablement, image galleries, jobs, membership, broadcasting, polls, event management, forums, product catalogue, eCommerce, e-Marketing, social media
• The CMS provides the ability to tailor content for certain users - ie. specific information for members, limited information for the general public. There is no limit to the number of types of users.
• Pegboard's partner program provides access to a network of other developers and programmers that can be called upon to provide their expertise in their area of specialty.

• Customer Profiles - the ability to identify key features on the site and flag those interactions to tie customer visits back to specific persona types.
• Lead Scoring - the ability to establish a funnel for leads and use this funnel to assign a score or qualification within the sales funnel.
• Personalization - the ability to tailor experiences to unique customer segments based on their needs, identifiying and optimizing the experience in real-time.

• Search is not working well. We could not get it work even we worked it with IBM support.
• Java Applet in Ephox editor is pain. You have to watch that you update your Java version correctly or You cannot edit anything. This might work somehow on enterprise environment with tight workstation configuration. I think that Java Applet editor is the worst part of IBM WCM
• IBM WCM needs lot of capacity on database and appserver.

• The Pegboard platform is a high-end CMS solution and so requires a high level of knowledge of HTML and CSS. It is not suitable for graphic designers with a limited knowledge of these web languages.
• As a partner I have access to the Pegboard developers helpline - phone or online ticket system. At times I have found that their assistance has been a little on the slow side. This could be improved. I also feel that they expect a higher level of programming ability than we as a partner may necessarily have.
• We have used the Pegboard Build department to assist us with the development of some aspects of our client’s websites. This build service could improve their communication with partners so that outcomes could be achieved more easily.

• Sitecore is complicated. Software developers need (costly) training to get the most value out of it and business users do not find it intuitive to use. Concepts like the content tree can be difficult for the business users to grasp.
• Despite everything being possible in Sitecore, virtually nothing comes out of the box - you need to develop every component and do so within a defined process and framework, which can be a fairly big development overhead.

IBM products always moves forward to adapt to new requirements and technologies. I have used versions 6, 6.1, 7 and 8 of IBM WCM, and I know IBM is ready to revamp the tool based on emerging needs, and still provide the capabilities to migrate your old system to the newer versions.

The Pegboard platform offers our company the ability to offer a greater level of design than any other platform. And this, combined with the superior functionality that the platform offers, enables us to provide a web solution to companies requiring a high-end website for their business. Without the Pegboard platform we would not be able to provide a top-end solution to those clients that require it.

Sitecore has proven that it can deliver on its promise of a robust, reliable enterprise CMS solution with plenty of features. Also, they keep updating it with more and better features. Now that we are highly trained on it we have started on getting the most out of it and we plan to keep doing more of that in the future.

New versions has increased user experience facilitating usability.

Once you learn how to use the platform and can put a solid strategy in place to manage it long-term, it becomes a lot easier to use. The tricky part is working with resources who are familiar with the platform to navigate some of the common implementation and configuration pitfalls. Although Sitecore has worked very hard to overcome some of these from their earlier product versions by creating wizards and improving their support documentation, at the end of the day it is still a very complex and powerful system that needs to be implemented carefully in order to foster the best possible user experience for authors. So it could be rated very usable or not usable at all based on how much planning took place and the quality of the implementation.

Implementation was successful due to Websphere application server used.

We implemented Sitecore on an Agile project team, which worked very well. We worked closely with the stakeholders for each feature and all features and user stories were prioritized outside of the development team. Anyone trying to implement a website of this magnitude should definitely attempt to do so in as much an Agile fashion as possible.

Each of the options had good points and bad points. Building a site with tight integration to HCL Commerce and SAP backend systems was just easier with HCL DX. Security is also a concern and HCL DX provided better fine-grained security across the board. HCL DX also allowed us to use multiple technologies and maintain a cohesive feel across everything.

Pegboard provides a superior ability to customise the design of a website and offers a greater level of functionality. The other web platforms reviewed all use their own design templates that can then be customised. We have recommended these other 2 platforms to some clients that are happy with an existing template design and therefore benefit from some potential lower cost. These other platforms do provide a lesser level of functionality.

Adobe Marketo Engage is a fantastic product for managing campaigns and audience segmentations syncing with Adobe Audience Manager. It also has OOTB connectivity to very popular CRM platforms. Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target are pretty similar to Sitecore CDP/Personalize. Any custom/extension implementation required in the Adobe space has the same complexity as Sitecore.
