Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Barracuda Email Protection company - wide for email filtering and email management. It's important for our organization because it gives every user the access to manage their own email - blacklists, whitelists, blocking email addresses or entire domains. Most of our employees use it daily, it's become a critical part of our everyday workflow.

Pros

It gives employees access to manage their own email instead of reaching out to the MSP
The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate
Employees manage their own whitelists and blacklists

Cons

The filtering is very good, but could be just a little better. It does get 95% of the spam, but a couple get through in a week that are obviously spam.

Return on Investment

We have had no issues with malware or virus's getting through our email system
We've saved countless hours with users being able to quickly add email senders to whitelists or blacklists through the intuitive interface
Users can manage every aspect of their own email - reporting suspicious email, accessing their email archive, etc...

As an MSP we have been using Barracuda Email Protection for ourselves and many clients for over 4 years. Support Team has always been quick whenever needed. They had help us configuring email security while migrating email system from on premises to cloud or vice versa. It blocks most phishing and junk emails effectively. Encryption, bulk detection and content policies are super helpful. We occassionally see a few spam emails still slip through, which is why I’m giving it a 9 instead of a 10. Its not major issue but it’s something we hope improves in future. Regardless we consistently recommend Barracuda Email Protection to all of our MSP clients.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

When we originally signed up for M365, their built-in DLP was bad and rarely caught critical items that needed protection. We needed a better solution and started looking around, and the Barracuda Email Security platform was cheap and did a good job. For us it now does spam filtering, business email continuity, DLP, malware/virus filtering, and URL-review to make sure phishing emails don't get through.

Pros

Great job on URL-filtering, it reviews every link sent in an email and rewrites it to open in a sandbox first if clicked on.
It's cost-effective and doesn't break the bank

Cons

Their DLP is a bit inflexible and cannot handle custom additions. You either turn on the 'group' of regulations you want to protect against (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, credit cards, etc.) and take the defaults, or you don't. Nothing outside of that.
They increased the price about 2 years ago.

Return on Investment

As healthcare, we're heavily regulated and face fines of millions of dollars for a breach. Barracuda helps us ensure that anyone sending email out of our email system is protected even if they make a mistake and sensitive data is encrypted.
While the MS tools were built in to M365, they didn't work great, or really at all for our needs. Barracuda cost us a little bit more, but was a cost-effective way to supplement MS and get what we needed.
