We use 2Checkout Monetization Platform for processing payment of our SaaS subscription. It solved the major problem of accepting cross-border payments by offering multiple payment options to customers. Not just accepting payments but their platform also has support for electronic license code delivery. Affiliates Management is also a part of it but this review is majorly focused on payment gateway.

We were initially limited to offering PayPal as a payment option but we faced transactional errors from multiple regions. 2Checkout Monetization Platform offers localized payment options, some of them could be expensive for the vendor but we appreciate the feasibility offered.

2Checkout Monetization Platform is well suited for emerging SaaS businesses because along with payment processing, they offer you exposure to Affiliates and make electronic code delivery easy. The dashboard is cumbersome and reporting graphs/options are not easy to comprehend so it might become trouble when the business grows and you want to show it to venture capitalists or any investor/buyer.

I use 2Checkout to manage subscriptions for my clients and process payments. My software is used by hundreds of childcare centers across Canada and the United States and I charge my clients a monthly (or annual) subscription fee. After my clients choose their plan I send them over to a 2Checkout page where they can make payment. 2Checkout sends automated emails to my clients to remind them of upcoming expiration dates, or inform them of failed payments. In my system, I use the 2Checkout API to confirm my client's current subscription status including which product (subscription) they've purchased and I generate links that my clients can use to upgrade their product, update their contact info or change their payment method.

I can really only speak to my own experience which is with the software subscription model and 2Checkout seems tailor-made for this purpose. However based on what I've seen it seems like it would work equally well if you were selling physical products. They do have quite a lot of flexibility around creating promotions for products.

  • I now get excellent customer service as compared to when I was with PayPal
  • I no longer have to subject my customers to the pain of maintaining a PayPal account
  • 2Checkout allows me to offer the same service as any large company and I'm a 1 man show
There's no comparison. Using PayPal as my payment processor was a nightmare. PayPal was really designed for the purchaser not for the seller. Yes, they were cheap but you get what you pay for. Customer service at PayPal was also non-existent. 2Checkout on the other hand is designed for the seller. Their system is mature and feature-filled. It does everything I would need and allows me to present a professional purchasing experience to my clients. The documentation is good, but the best thing about 2Checkout is that I can contact a friendly tech support rep 24/7 via live online chat. I tell them what I'm trying to do and they help me out. If necessary they can escalate the support request and I always receive a chat transcript in my inbox afterward.
