Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Confluence

Atlassian Confluence is used pretty piecemeal at my organization. Many of the more technical teams store all of their processes, policies, and even some code in Atlassian Confluence and use Jira for project management as well. On the other hand, less technical teams use other programs that are more tailored to their niche (i.e. Customer Success, People, Finance).

Pros

  • Space organization
  • Permissions management
  • Document collaboration

Cons

  • Browser extension for quicker access to content
  • Live collaboration
  • Efficient to use in conjunction with Jira
  • Needed to be replaced for Sales/Marketing/CS teams because of tedious nature of updating and finding content
  • We now have somewhat redundant programs because of needs not met by Atlassian Confluence (i.e. embedded content in Salesforce)
Atlassian Confluence is a solid knowledge base and collaboration tool. However, in my opinion, its main benefit is that it's paired with another program often used by companies (Jira). Outside of that, I think there are programs out there that are potentially better fits for the companies and/or teams looking for content management and collaboration.
Again, Atlassian Confluence is efficient when paired with Jira and can do most of what a company needs it to do. But, I thi Spekit is better for "just-in-time" learning, SharePoint is better for file hosting and organization, Asana is much better for project/task management, and Coda is an all-around better tool for content and collaboration. In my opinion, Atlassian Confluence is good enough for all of these things, but it's not the best in any of the categories.

Do you think Atlassian Confluence delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Atlassian Confluence's feature set?

No

Did Atlassian Confluence live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Atlassian Confluence go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Atlassian Confluence again?

No

If a company wants to or is already using Jira, then Atlassian Confluence makes sense as a companion tool. However, if Jira is not needed, then perhaps Sharepoint could take the place of Atlassian Confluence's file database function and a more strategic decision could be made for content and knowledge base hosting.
