ActiveCampaign is perfect for teams that want a lightweight, easy to use email software which still has the ability to deeply integrate with your codebase/business logic (through tagging via their API and automations).It strikes the balance nicely between allowing developers and marketers to collaborate --- simply instruct the developers to tag users appropriately in the business logic / code base, and then the marketers can use AC's automations initiated by a tag to come up with whatever complex follow-up they desire (all without bugging the developers again).

I think it is a really complete CRM, with good pricing considering its features and great functionalities for small and big sales teams. It's really customizable so you can make it work as you wish, and the lead scoring system is something I still don't understand why all other CRMs don't have!

  • The automation interface is fairly intuitive to work through and offers powerful, flexible features.
  • For the price and features it offers, it's the best value of any automation service that exists today.
  • It has a TON of options for the advanced user to tinker and test with.

Cons

  • Since it has so many options, a beginner might be overwhelmed by the choices available. This is hard to avoid when offering so much flexibility, but still, a new user would be well-served to watch some tutorials and have a clear idea about the workflow they want to get started.
  • There is a point at which your list will outgrow the service (hopefully!) and you might want to think about switching to a service whose CRM and landing page functionality is more robust.

  • It would be great if you could manage the system scores for leads qualifications (like when a lead interacts with your emails it adds a point when it might be a cold lead)
  • Support help could respond a little faster when having problems (we were almost a week with a problem and the answers we got from them were every two days when it was something urgent)

Alternatives Considered

ActiveCampaign is much cheaper, much less confusing, much less time-consuming. ActiveCampaign allows for templates to be shared easily. ConfusionSoft is so expensive and has unneeded setup time. For a software company, they are so frustratingly slow at helping set up your email automation and tracking. With ActiveCampaign you could be done setting everything up within 24 hours.

Close.io has less features, costs more, and equally has an inside sales team focus, rather than being just as suitable for both inside and outside sales.Having said this, Close.io has important features and smart automations, a cleaner interface (easier for non-techs to use), and has very strong integrations using Zapier, plus SMS-based support.Where Freshsales won for us is that it ended up being nearly half the cost of Close.io, as well as included telephony support for our local country (Australia), whereas Close.io comes with USA/Canada numbers and requires the top pricing tier to include calls to other countries. We needed a telephony system that worked well for making and receiving from Australia.Freshsales won for us because their pricing is at a good point, had the telephony requirements we needed, and all the features that we required were good enough, or we found a workaround.
