Adobe Connect

If communicating with 30-90 agents in the virtual world, Adobe Connect definitely allows for the communication in a simplified environment. For example, f you have 30 agents taking calls, this program offers a way for agents to communicate. If questions are needed answered, the hosts have the ability to pose those questions and get answers from the group. In a smaller group, this may be a bit of overkill and may not be needed. Large groups of 75-100 would create and environment that is less appropriate as there are to many people asking questions and not receiving answers. This amount of people in one room may get lost in the confusion.

ON24

ON24 is great for a small- to medium-sized marketing team. For a larger scale webinar program, it could be harder to scale. There are also great reporting tools but hard to navigate to.

Pros

  • Shared Templates in Adobe Connect help package content for convenient and consistent delivery of project and training materials.
  • Chat pods, poll pods, whiteboards and other features encourage interactivity beyond traditional lecture format.
  • Adobe Connect supports many file types, which enables you to pre-load several forms of multimedia for presentations, such as slides, images and video.
  • Breakout Rooms enable a project lead or trainer to engage with participants on an individual or small group basis.

  • The console page is easily customizable which allows us to incorporate our own branding.
  • Follow up and reminder emails can be easily set up.
  • ON24 makes it extremely easy to create short videos from webinar recordings.

Cons

  • Slides and images can be pre-loaded and deployed easily, but we have noticed some buffering issues when attempting to show video as a pre-loaded file.
  • Shared Templates offer a great way to set up and save multiple pods and layouts, however, we have encountered some issues when attempting to set up and save Breakout Rooms in a Shared Template.
  • When demonstrating screen-share tutorials for software, some parts of the application do not always render correctly for the viewer. In our experience, this problem typically occurs with more complex, multi-window applications.
Sean McCarty profile photo
  • The transition to HTML5 for desktop has not been entirely smooth, with browser compatibility issues still cropping up every once in a while.
  • The PowerPoint conversion system is extremely opaque when it comes to errors or other issues. More clarity when uploads fail, etc., would be valuable.
  • Browser-based nature of the system means that someone is going to have problems all the time--the immediate support options are not immediately clear to users, apparently (based on the questions they ask during events).

Beyond all the aforementioned reasons, there's just no other product out there that stacks up against the mature AC solution. We have a fantastic relationship with our AC reseller, who also provides us a great telephony solution in the bundle. Beyond the features, the post-sale support can be a critical factor in successful enterprise-adoption; make sure that your reseller can provide formal AC training to your people, and has a help-desk team well-versed in the product.

We have already renewed once before, and I do not see this changing anytime soon.Any feature or functionality that might be missing, is never missing for long. On24 is always thinking of ways to enhance their product and keep it relevant. As part of their On24 user community, they constantly provide access for us to submit suggestions for feature and functionalities we as users would want, and a lot of time, these recommendations do get implemented.

Usability

Adobe Connect9.0
Based on 5 answers
As sophisticated a product as Adobe Connect, the ease of use is outstanding. In my experience, even a user with very little knowledge of Adobe Connect can begin using and even leading sessions with very little training to get started with the basic features. Additional training is needed to become comfortable with the number of available features, but learning curve even for those is no steeper than would normally be expected from similar software.

In a virtual event with over 1000 people attending live, we had only two complaints from attendees about tech issues. The interface for both presenters and attendees is very friendly and intuitive, and encourages exploration of the console, leading to discovery of resources and features.

I have never in over 300 webinars (as of 2018) had a problem with the availability of On24's platform. Not only that, whenever I had a problem that I may have caused like uploading a last minute slide deck or accidentally deleting something, the On24 emergency line has been able to help me in minutes. They are extremely dedicated to uptime and quality service.

The ability to have most of the functionality of a full LMS at a fraction of the cost is huge. I can create manage and deploy both synchronous and asynchronous training based on the situation and all of my training is tracked through a series of easily created reports

Implementation

Adobe Connect7.9
Based on 4 answers
Prices do not seem to vary much among resellers of the Adobe Connect hosted license; the only price variation you're likely to find are among the audio providers. When implementing, you may also wish to look into expanding the amount of storage you are allowed on the server to avoid any problems later on as your library of files starts to build up

We had a few training's, which were broken up, and focused on specific areas of how to use the platform. Mostly though, a lot of it is just dedicating your time to learning and exploring what the possibilities are for enhancing your webinars

Alternatives Considered

We found that WebEx was 'flat' when it came to training for extended periods of time. Deeper interactions created by AC with the course content, the instructors and, ultimately, with the students creates a successful class. A successful class means students that have been exposed to (in our case) intensely complex & technical content that wasn't hampered by stupid technical failures & lack of features. For example: in WebEx, when the Host dropped off, the classroom would get torn-down with it. It was a mad-scramble to get the classroom back up, and somehow notify the attendees that they can 'dial back in', etc. Additionally, the WebEx 'cloud' for course content storage & subsequent access wasn't as rich, or as flexible as AC's, and we found that our CDT release management team couldn't integrate their processes easily with WebEx, and therefore we regularly ran into inconsistencies in versions delivered.

I have been using Webex off and on since 2004. It has pretty much always been an unpleasant experience. ON24 is a purpose-built marketing tool, rather than a broadly built "events platform," and it is a marketing company rather than a networking company. Thus, the features of ON24 far outstrip Webex in terms of value, with the only advantage the latter having is the superior network infrastructure. ON24 support is light-years beyond Webex support, which was essentially nonexistent. GoToMeeting is a fine product, but again is not purpose-built for marketing and also requires users to install a program, which we wanted to avoid

Return on Investment

  • I can't answer for the other departments, but for our specific teams, AC has allowed us to present a much more immersive and comprehensive training experience for our students. It's a comfortable, inviting environment, which is critical for an online classroom. Sitting in front of a screen for 6 hours is tough. Add to that the training component, and attendees will tire quickly, get frustrated at seemingly stupid hurdles and ultimately the training ecosystem causes the actual training content to get lost in the shuffle. Smooth transitions, easily navigated sections and loads of options make AC come together for us all.

  • It allowed us to rapidly deploy webinars. The "simu-live" recordings are great. We've been able to replicate one webinar again and again.
  • The poor presentation design presents the brand poorly in my view. It's not up to our design standards.
  • It's pretty easy to set up a presentation. This has reduced overhead and saved time.
