ADP WFN is well-suited to companies with more than 500 employees who have a need for benefits administration, ACA compliance, time/attendance, on-boarding/recruitment in addition to payroll processing. Smaller companies can find better cost savings with a more modest payroll provider.

Great for managing medium sized teams of people spread over geographically dispersed offices. Not so good for small teams (less than 15). Requires a degree of time and effort to set up correctly to provide useful data for management and a good experience for staff members, but once that effort has been made the results are great.

Cons

  • The performance management tools are clucky, they seem to be a "me-too" add-on that offers little value compared to other solutions that are out there.
  • The portal often has 'scheduled' maintenance, during these time you can log into your account.
  • The mobile app seems slow, there seems to be frequently login issues.

  • The way it saves data/changes is a little archaic. I have gotten complaints from people doing hours of work and losing it.
  • It could be more proactive in notifications. Notifications could be improved.
  • It could provide more direction for users to know when they are complete with a review. There’s no you’re done with this review. This is important for compliance reasons when you are trying to get through reviews. They do have an indicator of completeness for reviews, a progress bar for your whole team but not for individual reviews. I keep getting the question from my staff, am I done?

We are happy with ADP Workforce Now. Set up is rather simple and will accommodate almost any/every need for your business in the areas of HR, Payroll., & Compliance. Support can be inconsistent but every process has an online manual with step by step instructions that make troubleshooting much easier. We rarely need to call support. Payroll tax is and tax filing are second to none and processing/importing is rather simple.

It's not that CSB isn't a decent performance management system, but we have decided to go with just one vendor (Workday) for an HRIS/performance management/payroll system so we can directly relate pay to performance. We are more interested in having just one system that "talks" to the other pieces instead of having to work with several vendors. It reduces the hassle of having to communicate with different support teams, having different contracts, and so on.

Because most of the payroll piece is self explanatory. Some training may be required to learn the lingo, but they also have "help" screens available on each section. I use this function if I don't understand what is going on. The time and attendance piece is fairly easy for the employee to learn with very little training.

The saving process slows it down. It doesn’t auto save. If you leave a page, it will sometimes warn you, but not always. When you hit the save button, a window pops up that says creating/saving packets. It feels very archaic.

ADP has gone back to the designated "team support" module for clients on the newer versions of WFN, and the introduction of "The Bridge" has just added additional resources for problem resolution. It is a blog of current users who can share ideas/solutions in real time. And open case numbers are relatively east to track, and will allow the clients to view status of specific cases in the near future. We currently have no open items!

The instructions from the recruiting agency on how to use the system was pretty straightforward. It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. The handout also provided some pictures of the application

Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

I think we could have done a better job of rolling out the tool to our managers. We were under a tight timeline. In the training, we showed them everything and said go do it by this date. Looking back, I would have done it in pieces: for example, 2 weeks to write goals, 2 weeks to get sign-off from direct reports. I just let them go at it. Since then we’ve moved to agile development environment and are applying the technique to everything. In future would only do through change sprint. It is a big change I didn’t take it seriously enough.

I had a team of 3 project managing. You need a champion from every department to make sure you’re getting it right and to make sure what’s happening is communicated. It’s not something you can do without input from department heads

Alternatives Considered

There is a reason ADP is the industry leader. If you are looking to make pay statements or financials easily accessible, even if you could consider this in the future, for your employees, Workforce Now is definitely the way to go. I did not find that the case would be the same with other software when going through demos with their sales reps and implementation teams.
