AdRoll

AdRoll is great for those who have a strong creative department and want the ability to retarget users who land on their site. AdRoll is also great for prospecting as you can upload your database and AdRoll will prospect lookalikes. For folks who want to track users on social (Facebook and Instagram), AdRoll does wonders. You also have the ability to email prospects which is another great way to build a unique database.

Google Ad Manager

It's a great tool for businesses with scale, the actionable insights provided is the true value of the tool. Smaller businesses may find the analytics and suggestions found within Google Ads (complemented by Google Analytics) to be sufficient for their needs.

Pros

  • Retargeting
  • Prospecting
  • Trackability
Stefanie Cash profile photo
  • A robust native ad creation tool.
  • Ad optimization suggestions.
  • Granular data that integrates multiple platforms.

Cons

  • Conversion reporting would be the big one. Some aspects of what they do are obfuscated, so you can't always get the best reporting depending on what channel you're running (web or facebook, retargeting, etc).
  • Better integration with Facebook creative units. Right now it feels like you don't get access to all of the same newer formats and capabilities you get when running with Facebook direct.
  • Better creative management. It can get a bit unwieldy managing many different variations of creative.

  • It would be great if the tool enabled advertisers the ability to review and report brand/trademark infringement.
  • Needs a custom ap (not the Google Ads app)

Account management is a big issue for us, its something we were looking for but we didn't get too many big ideas or big strategies to move the needle.

Usability

Honestly, AdRoll is like every other ad management system. In fact, all ad management systems are pretty much identical with a few proprietary tweaks. Creating a campaign is done in one seamless screen with everything you need right there. The ability to add creative and even order AdRoll to create ads for you is also easy. The monitoring of a live campaign is easy as you can see all the necessary information from the main screen. Super easy to use and reliable deliverability

Really reliable support. Dependable, easy to understand billing. I rarely have any issues, but if I do they are super quick to respond

Alternatives Considered

AdRoll works the best for our mission and campaigns. The others were considered for our current campaigns, but were not easy to use, cost too much to utilize, and were not ideal for the use case we made

The UI is better against all other options in the market. Even the opportunity that you have to integrate new inventory from your own is easier when doing it by yourself; we always had to go back to the support teams on all other products in order to do so. Also, the robust service that Google has makes it easier to leverage all features of the suite.

Return on Investment

  • Because our clients are so niche we rarely use our full allocated budget.
  • The budget we do use sees the best ROI that we've seen on digital campaigns.
Eric Kammer profile photo
  • Negative: the pricing is higher than average
  • Positive: standardizing the properties that we manage is a good thing
  • Google's support has positively impacted our business, as we used to have lack of support with other platforms
