The content in the news section isn't totally responsive - meaning if I have a small window taking up half my screen, the images for the headline articles may not load properly and when I maximize that window, it's left with ugly half-loaded images. Also, the collaboration feature for Office documents is great in theory but tends to cause more pain than it's worth to just download the document and open it separately in Word or Excel.

OnSemble is solving a lot of problems that our organization had prior to its implementation:
  • We can track communication readership.
  • We can engage with our fellow teammates through chats and recognition.
  • We have a central location for all job-related links.
  • We are just now delving into adding departmental pages so folks can communicate within their teams.
I'm not sure of a scenario where OnSemble wouldn't be appropriate - if you have a company that needs to centralize communication, documentation, and share ideas, it's an excellent choice.

In the end, I think we can always make it fit — and that’s one of the powers of Salesforce. Because of its flexibility and wide range of possibilities, you can really make it work for almost any need. The key, though, is to make thoughtful decisions upfront and plan carefully how you set it up. If you do that, you’ll end up with a truly flexible and effective system.

Pros
  • Jive makes it easy to create new pages for administrators.
  • Jive makes it easy to manage users in one area and simple to navigate administration user interface.
  • Jive is a really good concept, the idea behind jive creates a great main hub in an organizaiton.

  • Ease of Use - with limited html or design experience, I was able to pick up building and updating in our OnSemble portal with minimal struggles.
  • Customer Service and Support - Passageways employees are hands down the best, always willing to take extra time to dig in, troubleshoot, and resolve any issues in an extremely timely manner. They are always pleasant and super helpful.
  • Customization - the available site of modules offered allow for a "site" that is suited for the differing needs of each business OnSemble is being used by. From calendars, to document repository, to creating content pages for staff, the possibilities for customization are almost limitless.

  • It does a good job of routing our leads to customers, to our inside sales reps and teams.
  • It does a good job of tracking all of the opportunities that we have, the contacts that we have with people related to the opportunities.

Cons
  • Search functionality is very weak
  • The information architecture and taxonomy doesnt allow for easy discoverability of content
  • It's hard to navigate the and find spaces/groups that I already know about
  • The main profile/interface does not allow easy access to key tasks or common tasks.

  • Now that we're customers, the support function is not as strong. If we have a question, we are pointed towards articles so we can "self serve". Sometimes it is important to pick up the phone and talk to someone, which is a service that they've eliminated. Everything is self-help or email ticketing.
  • When creating the portal, we didn't know what we didn't know. There were some instances that if we hadn't asked a question, we never would have been told about a product/feature that we didn't know we had access to. Our banner almost wasn't implemented in time because the person in charge of it left the company and we didn't know that we needed to follow up on that.
  • While being able to completely customize the portal is a HUGE strength and not a problem since our implementation team consisted of marketing professionals with design experience, it is also a weakness. If you are tasked with creating the portal but don't have design capabilities, I highly recommend looping in someone who does.

  • I’d say the only thing that can be a bit tricky — and I know Tableau helps address this — is that sometimes we’re limited in how deep we can go with the data in terms of reporting. It would be great to have a bit more robustness within the app itself. However, we’ve figured out our workarounds, and overall, I think it’s a fantastic product — which is why I’ve been working with it for 23 years.

There are always external factors that can impact this decision but currently, the Jive platform is maintaining its lead in the market place in this area. If the innovation in this space by Jive continues, then this number will remain high. Integration with other systems and adaptability to changes in the market or in client needs will also make this decision hard to predict more then 6 months into the future

There are days when I wish we hadn't switched, but I know that if we put in the time, we will get to where we want to be with the software and that it has many more capabilities than anything else we looked at. However, the amount of time and onboarding we need to do is also far greater than we realized/were told when we originally bought the product. They told us we should hire onboarding support, but at the end, after we had already reached our budget maximum for this, so it's been slower than we had hoped.

All in all, it's a great product that use all day, every day. It's aesthetically pleasing overall and specifically provides information in a clean, concise way. It's also easy to use from everywhere where it be on a university campus, in a hotel room, one of a million Starbucks, or at home

All Force.com apps run on world-class data centers with backup, failover, and disaster-recovery facilities. Force.com has had a proven 99.9 percent uptime record for years. Accordingly, I only recall our instance of Salesforce having one unscheduled, brief down time over 6 years. I have always been pleased with my experiences with OnSemble's Support team. First, they have a great library of articles to help me study and guide for many of my questions. Just from an organizational standpoint - we standardized our data prior to moving to Salesforce. But we essentially standardized it wrong. That's created a big disgusting mess for us know that I'll have to deal with as the Admin. Be sure you think through use cases prior to doing something like that - seek outside opinions on how the data will work best, especially depending on what else you're going to integrate with Salesforce.

It's very scalable as it has a ton of features (but you do need an admin who understands how to leverage these features). • The corporate directory provides a pix, hire anniversary date, and birthdate (sans year), along with the usual location and contact information. So besides being a tremendous convenience when needing to contact someone, we can meet new people and celebrate life events with one another.
  • Having "controlled" and "guided" help desks helps manage the extreme variety of information [that] may come in. It helps translate the user's interpretation of the issue into something more understandable.
