Overall Satisfaction with Intuit Mailchimp
We use Intuit Mailchimp to handle our entire newsletter output across multiple newspapers/websites. This includes daily promotion of our content, plus marketing emails to drive digital subscriptions. These newsletters also carry ads to bring in revenue along with growing our audience. We can also use Mailchimp to monitor the effectiveness of different newsletter strategies, for sharing around the group.
Pros
- Enables you to swiftly populate newsletter content
- Allows you to add and resize pictures easily
- Gives you feedback on some of your choices and tips to improve
- Provides statistics to enable you to monitor newsletter success
Cons
- Modifying templates could be simpler - adding or removing elements should be a little more straightforward
- Picture uploads are limited to about 10mb, meaning you sometimes have to resize pictures
- With our integration, use of Ctrl V to paste content in sometimes copies formatting and sometimes places content in bold, depending on the field.
- Auto-population of intros and pics from a url would be helpful, as with Google Showcase
- Improved open rates on newsletters
- Helped us grow newsletter subscribers by about 10% on previous growth rate
- Improved the look of our newsletters, making them more professional
- Aided the sale of extra ad slots, bringing in 20% more newsletter revenue
We are able to segment our audience now to target those readers who have not yet signed up for a subscription package. It means that those who have signed up already are not bombarded with marketing emails they don't need, which can lead to readers unsubscribing and therefore a loss of engagement and, ultimately, page views. Now we're able to approach regular readers of the newsletter directly to sign up for a subscription package, or offer a special deal too. We can also avoid offering a new deal to those recently signed up on a long-term subscription.

- Email marketing
Our goals are to grow our subscriber base, increase engagement, grow page views for our websites, and raise revenue from our email marketing. By improving our email marketing / newsletters, and segmenting our audience, we've been able to run highly successful campaigns that have led to dramatic spikes in sign-ups. We've used the testing options to improve the performance of these campaigns, which we could not do with our previous system.
The in-line text editor is useful for copying over formatting that we wish to keep. As an everyday example, this can include hyperlinks to existing articles, which help to drive more page views / clicks. Without this, we would manually need to grab the URL and convert it, which would take more time. The CSS Inliner means we don't have to code it by hand, or instruct people how to.
We switched dozens of titles and websites over to Mailchimp within the space of a couple of weeks. We used a single training each to train staff how to adopt the new system, combined with a reference/training document that answered the key questions and took users through the steps required to create their newsletters. While those working on the integration and marketing emails worked for longer on the project, for users at the front end it was a seamless process and we've been able to scale our output quite easily.
Our previous in-house system was slow and cumbersome to use, requiring more manual work to build content. Intuit Mailchimp handles text, pictures and links much more efficiently, meaning that we can quickly paste in format into templated boxes, then define who we wish to send to and when. Scheduling is easy, and you can test your content first.
