Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard AuthPoint

We use WatchGuard Authpoint to secure our VPN (WatchGuard Mobile VPN) group and our servers. There are 100+ users that have VPN access as needed. This secures that connection with its multi-factor authentication ensuring that the employee is the user connecting to our resources. It provides MFA for our server access too. There are only 3 users with access to our servers but it alleviates any concerns of a rogue individual gaining access.
  • Relatively easy to set up from the end user side
  • Utilizes cell phone technology
  • Allows employees options - code, push, hardware token, etc.
  • Syncs with AD
  • End-User setup - When finished it should highlight it was successful and they can close the app. Many left it open and thought it was not setup
  • Initial IT setup is a little involved but WG support / sales was helpful
  • We were able to renew our Cyber risk insurance policy
  • One cyber event could cost thousands of dollars + not to mention client confidence in the ability to keep their data safe. Our ROI is the belief that this product is halting many of these attacks which have the potential to cost 10x our expenditure for the WatchGuard AuthPoint product.
Duo Secure works in a very similar way. We utilize WatchGuard routers & access points in all our offices. We use the WatchGuard Mobile VPN software too. We knew that the WatchGuard AuthPoint would integrate well with our current equipment.
We can access the administrative console whether in the office, on mobile, or at home. This is beneficial when a user may have an issue so we can review the portal to see if everything is set up correctly. Typically, new users wait too long to verify the activation email that is sent so there are times we need to jump on the portal to resend that email. The only hardware required to be deployed is if a user or users do not have a smart cell phone or prefer to not use their personal cell phone. We issue Watchguard Authpoint Hardware tokens in these situations. The cloud portal makes these easy to set up and issue along with providing information on the user along with the ability to deactivate.
We have a full range of users. Many of the less technical users got through the setup without the help of our IT group. Those users have stated that they like the ease of use. This has allowed us to implement the product without the typical hassles involved with end-user confusion or GUI issues. Out of 100 users, we had to help about 10% of those users. Many had the app successfully installed but did not realize it. Most users are familiar with MFA now since they utilize online banking. I believe this helped. Most realize the cyber risks are currently high which helped in promoting and implementing the product.
The way the world is with multiple accounts and passwords users may have tens or hundreds of these to remember in their day-to-day lives. Our personal lives overlap our work lives. It seems there is an account and password for everything now. The simplification that SSO brings to the table is an overwhelming benefit to users. To be able to implement a product without the necessary requirement of another account / PW to remember enhances the ability of users to accept this added security enhancement.

Did implementation of WatchGuard AuthPoint go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy WatchGuard AuthPoint again?

Yes

It works very well to secure our VPN and our servers. We utilize Microsoft 365 and chose to keep the M365 MFA turned on rather than route it via WatchGuard AuthPoint. It seemed a little patched together to get it to work. Also, we did not want to leave all our eggs in one basket. If there are issues with Authpoint at any time users will still be able to access their Microsoft 365 services with the Microsoft MFA.
