As I have only used it in one business I can't say too much how relevant it would be for other types of business, eg Retail or Manufacturing. It doesn't appear to be specifically set up for ecommerce.

We wholesale products and it works well for that kind of business model.

Sage Intacct

Sage Intacct is well suited for creating reports and dashboards where we can easily see and keep track of our budgeting and finances. It is a useful tool for companies of all sizes. We previously had a different software that our company had outgrown. Sage Intacct allows us to do our job more accurately and in a timely manner.

Pros

  • Generic Inquiries are a very easy way to create custom reports.
  • The automation schedules are useful, we use these for confirming of shipments, creating invoices and emailing them. Reduces workload.
  • Open for integration with other software. We find the ease of connection to MS PowerBI very useful.

Cons

  • The CRM module is very basic.
  • There is no supplier remittance function.
  • The API is basic, our ecommerce integration has had to be built nearly from scratch.

  • I am anxiously awaiting the release of bank feeds and the improved cash reconciliations due on next year.
  • Their online help tools could be better. Enhancements are documented well in release notes, but these don't always get properly integrated into the help system.
  • Report writing has not been very easy, so I am looking forward to the new interactive reporting tool.
  • They need to address payment options for organizations with decentralized AP. Current ACH solutions do not allow for payment out of more than one bank account.

I have 25 years of accounting experience, I've used 10-plus different accounting programs, and implemented two. I have never used another software this user friendly and with such a flexible system for creating custom reports. My questions to Intacct have been about what's possible, not "why doesn't this work when it worked yesterday", or "how do I get this done". It's fairly intuitive and easy to figure out. There are a few features I was happy to have implementer help on, but I had almost no training before diving in

currently you must submit a ticket via the customer portal and then wait for a response. The time you must wait for the response varies based on the urgency of your request. Sometimes you just need a quick response and a phone call would be easier or even a live chat ~ would love to see them roll that out instead of having to wait when you have a question or issue.

The training is designed for implementing intacct as opposed to utilizing intacct. I think that both are necessary to learn, but wish there was continued training for using it once Intacct is in place for the users.

Alternatives Considered

NetSuite is much more expensive and is difficult to customise or integrate.
SAP is a more complex and powerful system, but several times more expensive to implement and run.

QuickBooks certainly made it easy for users to find alternative ways to get things done, even if it was not in line with proper accounting guidelines. Sage Intacct has forced our organization to do the things in the correct manner, putting our minds at ease with compliance concerns as well as budgetary uses
