If you are familiar with payroll, taxes, worker's comp and related tasks, you can then use your own accounting software to do those things. But if you are like me, have no experience in this area of the business and/or are still learning how it is done, then ADP RUN is for YOU!

I don't believe ADP is well suited to the PEO market. Small businesses, who typically rely on PEOs, need service. A company like ADP makes profit from high volume. The small business owner is not serviced well by ADP and in fact, is subject to being out of statutory compliance with state reporting requirements. That is not well suited to any business

  • Easy to use website. Don't have to phone in the payroll!
  • All necessary reports available in PDF format to download.
  • You can see what the total cost of the payroll will be (including withholding) before you approve it.
  • Very helpful phone support.

Cons

  • Adding columns to a payroll on the fly could be made easier.
  • I would love to have a more robust Paid Time Off Tracking tool.
  • Speeding up the site so that pages load faster would be nice. Especially when accessing the company directory.

  • They failed to file wages with the state for over 1 and 1/2 years
  • They classified 401k contributions as after tax and then had to amend form W-2 on multiple employees
  • They represented that short-term disability insurance was available during the proposal process, and after signing, side that it was in fact, not available, or a true bait and switch.
  • Their platform is very outdated and even their consultants cannot maneuver around and create reports.
  • It is very difficult to reach your assigned representative.
  • The executive of their customer service provides all kinds of promises but does not execute on promises
  • Choosing ADP was one of my biggest regrets and I would like to prevent this same experience from happening to any other small business.

Alternatives Considered

I prefer Run to QuickBooks in all aspects except price. However, the quality of the ADP product is worth the premium if the customer can afford it. Run is very comparable to Workforce Now in its core function but is obviously less robust in terms of functionality.

I chose ADP incorrectly concluding that since they are a big player in the PEO market, they must have processes and controls in place, as well as a robust reporting platform. What I experienced with ADP is anything but what they represented and what I believed I was contracting for. Unless you want to irreparably harm your business, choose another PEO rather than ADP. Choose any other than ADP.

  • Definitely positive. It allows me to use my time better.

  • ADP Total Source offers TERRIBLE REPORTING
  • ADP Total Source represents that they offer state of the art reporting. Please don't believe their claims. If you do, buyer beware.
  • ADP Total Source contracts to offer certain services and then does not fulfill promises. Since they are such a large company, they dare you to file a lawsuit against them. Since they are so big, you have very little recourse. Your business will suffer from using ADP as a co-employment partners.
  • ADP failed to complete required state reporting and they offered no explanation, just an amended filing.
