Considered Both Products
KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4 is similar in many ways to its competitors, but has an edge in terms of training content, usability, and integration. I would like to see more technical options with our level of subscription.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4 integrates seamlessly with Drata to monitor security compliance. It is possible to chose which training campaigns are mandatory to consider the security awareness training control passed. The integration is easy to configure and works with complex scenarios (optional …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
Although Cofense was a good product, years of limited updates of any substance caused us to look into additional products. We have reduced our time of needing to review phishing emails by almost 90%. For example, 800 messages delivered into our phishing platform resulted in 650 …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
In the past I have used ThriveDX/Lucy for security awareness training, and I liked that platform, but I liked the KnowBe4 interface more. I was using Microsoft Defender for O365 as my security awareness training platform, but unless you have an E5 license the cost of fully …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
I like how KB4 has more options in the simulations and training as well as more depth of services than the other companies
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
Great product and quality friendly account managers. We recommend this platform to anybody who is thinking of implementing a cyber security program within their organization. The simulation platform is like nothing we have seen with other vendors. Our employees can't cheat …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We chose KnowBe4, and stayed with them, because of their robust offering of training material/content. We did look at other products, but nothing compared to KnowBe4. Every couple years we'll look at the market and see what else is out there. So far, there is nothing even close …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We have not evaluated any other platforms.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
It isn't the same, but there wasn't an option for nothing. I didn't review or use any other programs before using KB4
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We use FortiGate and I found that the training KnowBe4 Security provided helped us utilize this tool even more.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training, relative to the competition, is best-in-class. Superior training materials, simulations, user interface, and customer support. The application integrates particularly well with our other technology offerings. The provider gives us access …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
Microsoft's training offering is not as extensive as KnowBe4's. KnowBe4's interface is very easy to use if you're an administrator.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
SANS was good, but the functionality we have gotten with KnowBe4 was what our company needed.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4, by far, has the most complete solution. It has the largest library of simulation emails, as well as training. It is so easy to set up campaigns and automatically have users who fail these campaigns to be added to groups that receive additional training. Those who are …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We used Barracuda for backups and wanted to test their training platform. KnowBe4’s platform is much more intuitive and is much better catered to our users. The metrics that we are able to generate through KnkwBe4 are also much more defined, allowing us to give better reports …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We have not evaluated or used any other products. We had many other institutions reference their use of KnowBe4 while attending IT conferences. Once we evaluated it for ourselves, we were convinced that KnowBe4 training would be a great fit for our organization as well. We did …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4 is by far the easiest and most cost effective solution to implement. Their customer service contacts us quarterly and walks us through the setup of the next campaign. The always make us aware of the latest content that has been added.
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training is our first and only security awareness training solution. I cannot speak for any of the competition as I do not have first-hand experience configuring or using any other solutions. KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training does an exceptional job …
Chose KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training
We have only had a Demo of Dark Trace but plan to do a test run in the near future. From what we understand, is it more of a network inspection tool and less of a Security Awareness Training mechanism so it should have little impact on our Knowbe4 program and may only impact …

This is a very appropriate training system for a school district. We have the ability to add or remove the number of required training. Originally, we scheduled 4 modules per year, but we reduced it to 2 per year, because teachers shared they felt it was too much, originally.

In such cases, they may require industry-specific software or custom solutions.Limited Internet Connectivity: Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based platform, which means a stable internet connection is essential for optimal functionality. Pros
KnowBe4
  • Real World Examples - Many of the training modules show Kevin Mitnick actually gaining access to a machine showing how one click can allow a malicious actor access to a machine or network.
  • Up-to-Date content - They are always adding new training and phishing examples.
  • The ability to schedule training and phishing tests.

  • keeps me extremely organized. It is so easy to link calendars, emails, and documents.
  • keeps me well connected. It is so easy to send a quick message on teams or send an email to a group (for example, my particular team within the company).
  • easy to use. Everything is straightforward, making it easy to find an answer to a question. There is even a search option to figure out how to do something within Microsoft.

Cons
KnowBe4
  • Uploading your own SCORM content can be problematic with what seem like arbitrary restrictions (e.g. file size, quiz word count, etc.)
  • Content that once was available at our level was taken away so that they could repackage it as a new "product" for an additional cost. They should have grandfathered in existing clients.
  • Reporting capabilities (key for compliance artifacts) should be better designed with flexibility for users to present content in a manner suited to their specific circumstances

  • Microsoft 365 really needs to work on protection part. In complex environment it is not reliable as compared to its competitors like Proofpoint. There are many instances where it fails to perform effectively.
  • In SharePoint Online the versioning feature of the document needs to be improved by Microsoft. Sometimes when we have to roll back to the previous version it does not work as expected.
  • In Teams messaging and app permission policies can be improved. There are some settings where we have to add a lot of things manually.

Between the ease of use, cost effectiveness, functionality and continued improvements Knowbe4 continues to make it would be pretty hard to find another competitive product that wraps it all up like KnowBe4 has. Not saying it couldn't happen, but haven't seen anything that competes at this point.

There are many features of Office that we cannot replicate in any other tool. Plus people know it already. It's not going away anytime soon.

Usability
KnowBe4
KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training is simple to use, simple to administer, effective, with quality content. It is easy to take the training and we have the reminders set so that the longer a user puts the training off, the more frequently they will receive reminder emails. Eventually they get emailed every day until they take the training. But with a simple click, they can get into the training content.

The interface of the different tools (this suite has MANY different tools) is usually simple to use and intuitive, and you can always re-arrange and add or remove the task you use most frequently from the menus and task bars.
Each tool / product includes a lot of features that may require a more intensive learning, but usually Office 365 tools are simple to learn from scratch, adding more knowledge as you required more advanced features

Pages load quickly, filter/sort quickly, and don't slow down or freeze. Everything is smooth and very easy to use. There are a places in the UI where you can forget how to get there, but other than that everything is great. We have had no issues using any part of the website.

Tech prod support is great! I did have to ask for a new customer success rep, needed a more experienced person to match my 12 years of experience running Cybersec training programs. Would suggest that more matching of rep level of knowledge to client level knowledge would help.

Over the past 8 years of using Microsoft 365, I have noticed that they change vendors often. This always leads to a poor experience in the beginning, then levels out after some time for the company to get things worked out. As a customer, it is really frustrating because I don't have time when something isn't working to have them "look into my issue" and get back with me. They have even closed a ticket I specifically told them to keep open. Your applications are only as good as the support.

KnowBe4
The implementation went really well and KnowBe4 was there the whole time on setup to make sure things were setup correctly. The only thing we had to figure out on our own was to script users automatically being added to security groups. So that when they sync to knowBe4 from AD they are placed into the same/correct groups.

Google Sheets is better for sharing and collaborative editing. Versioning of the same file is also one of Google Sheets strong points.
Microsoft 365 is better for working with local files. It is much easier to store the file in multiple places and backup multiple versions in multiple places.
LibreOffice is free but the usage is much counter intuitive than Microsoft Office. OpenOffice is worse when it comes to UI.
Microsoft Excel's performance with larger files is much better. When opening huge files, excel loads it asynchronously and I can start working right away.

KnowBe4
  • The smart group feature has provided us insight to users who continually fail phishing simulations and allows automatic training assignment. This has greatly reduced our technician's time spent inside the service, allowing them to focus on more important projects.
  • After switching to KnowBe4, for Cybersecurity training, our business has seen an increase of more than 20% participation in training.
  • I can't say enough about the Cybersecurity Assessment feature, which informs us of end-user weaknesses and strengths. Knowing where the company is strong and weak allows us to adjust training and system configurations, keeping the business more secure.

  • Positively, it has increased productivity and efficiency in creating templates and being able to systemize some of the protocols we are working on putting into place.
  • It has been a positive as well as most individuals and companies that we associate with also use MicroSoft 365 and therefore there is no need to have formats change in our documents when they open them up using another type of program.
  • Getting work done quickly.... One and Done!!!
