Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is a BaaS (Backup as a Service) solution used to back up and restore Microsoft 365 data, including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams data.
If someone is looking for a cloud archive solution, I believe Mimecast Cloud Archive has one of the best. I have worked with a few competitors in the past but the reason we have continued with Mimecast Cloud Archive is because of the capability, cost to value, and support that we receive. They also have other capabilities that can add security to your environment that you can access from the same portal.
Analyzing campaign performance is a great area where the Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is well-suited, and it’s working well. In the past, when we analyzed campaign performance, we had to use outside vendors, which was a time-consuming, laborious, and costly process.
Sync and Recover is a great tool for when you need to recover emails quickly or in bulk.
The archive is nested in the mail protection admin portal, so it is easy to navigate between the recent mail in the protection portal (limited window of time) and the archive when searching for emails during investigations or troubleshooting.
The additional protection feature allows scanning of emails that land in the archive. This helps with internal to internal emails that might have been malicious, for instance from a compromised account.
The Mimecast for Outlook add-in is nice, although you can access it from the web as well, for seeing your own archives. If users are missing an email, they can look there on their own without submitting an IT support ticket.
We do not allow end users to restore their own, but that is a feature that exists as well.
There are so many features, it can be difficult to find exactly how to perform some actions.
Emails are not automatically shown in their native format when searched you must click on the email and then request it be formatted in the proper format (HTML, plaintext, etc.).
I would like the option to remove users from the backup and set them to an alternate storage location/ archive location. Currently, my backups are at 7 TB, and I would like to segment out data with lower data retention requirements.
The product is an excellent tool for our organisation. With one incident in the past it helped clear any wrong doing when an external party had their email hacked. We where able to show that when the email left our org it was in tact with out modification and only after it arrived in the partners org was it changed. This one incident alone has shown how valuable the tool is.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 just works so well and is so easy to use. I researched multiple options for Office 365 backup and none seemed to be as easy to setup and use as Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and the pricing was very comfortable to us. I can't imagine any reason why we would change away from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.
The archive is easy to use and the searching is highly customizable. You can easily search based on timeframe, sender, recipient, words, phrases, and attachments. The ability to search keywords within attachments, body, and subject line is incredibly helpful. We're able to quickly and easily find what we're looking for.
The interface is simple, but powerful. It's easy to setup, easy to use. It's able to restore individual files and emails with ease. Would like to see the wording on some features cleared up, as it's caused us some confusing learning the tool.
There is never an issue. Everytime I have needed to access my own personal search archive or globally search across the whole business it works each time. I cannot recall a time where the service was down when needed to be used and all our staff use it daily.
The stability of the tool is the biggest factor, it has a fantastic uptime and the loading speed is exceptional. Long gone are the days of waiting for Outlook to open up a traditional PST archive, I can simply click, find what I need and go, usually, before outlook has opened the archive. It is an exceptionally efficient tool.
We have a lot of data, and pulling backups out of the store sometimes takes a bit of time - but this is within acceptable tolerances. I don't expect restores to be instantaneous, and I can't quantify if the speed is software or data repository.
It does a good job. The support team of the product was good and responsive and was also able to fix the issues I was experiencing at the time. It isn't perfect and takes some time to set up properly in the environment but once set up the product does what it is supposed to do which is what you are paying for.
The setup support we received was extremely helpful. They allowed us to learn as they created the policies and managed the handoff between setup and guided setup very well. This resulted in active, usable policies and us having the knowledge to adapt these as our needs change in the future.
We used Mimecast professional services for the implementation and it was flawless as we were migrating from a competitor's product. The only downside was the amount of time required to ingest all the data as this was coming from a few different sources and in some cases it took months to migrate and index all the content. Apart from that the process was very well guided, with plenty of communication all throughout and without any major issues or downtime.
One of the big features of Mimecast is the ability to send large files. We used to use CItrix Sharefile for this but switched over to Mimecast's LFS for one large reason...since we are archiving all of our mail in Mimeast anyway we would have wanted these attachments, even if large, also available to if we go back to look at old emails. However just for usability sake I think Citrix Sharefile's large file send is more polished and probably works a little better. We just choose to use the Mimecast so we had a one stop shop when it came to email archiving
First and foremost, Veeam's reputation stood out. They have been a leader in the backup vendors for a few years. That reputation along with recommendations from colleagues sold us on Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365. The other vendors that we did demo's with were lacluster in setup and performance. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 immediately won us over.
The only real impact is from a compliance standpoint. Our company is expected at a regulatory level to be protecting our data and even though the tenant has little traffic there could still be some regulated data in there. We have to be able to tell an auditor that it's being backed up by an enterprise grade solution, and that's what VDC was intended for.
