Considered Both Products
N-able Take Control
Chose N-able Take Control
Bad experiences with ConnectWise platforms in general ruled it out for us at this point in time. To be fair this was not really ConnectWise's fault more the team that set things up poorly leading to significant issues across the system.

TeamViewer had long been our go to, but …
Chose N-able Take Control
In my previous job we used Dameware which was a very good tool but lacked the managing capabilities of N-able. It has been a few years, so maybe Dameware has improved in that regard.
Chose N-able Take Control
N-able Take Control combines AV and Internet Security with Remote control whereas the others are isolated products and requires multiple products to achieve what N-able Take Control can
Chose N-able Take Control

Chose N-able Take Control
It's not half as easy as Solarwinds, and Solarwinds has more features.

I have used a number of remote access systems over my IT/MSP career, and Take Control stands out as the best I have ever used. If you are using the N-Able RMM I highly recommend, Take Control over the other options that can be integrated into the platform

TeamViewer
It is well suited if the team members work remotely and need constant collaboration and communication throughout the development cycle. It is so helpful for Systems Engineers in the Software industry to resolve laptop and computer issues. It is also helpful for troubleshooting hardware issues like printers, scanners, server racks, and more. It is less suited if the teams are small and no remote access or group calls are needed, they could very well use telephones and mobile phones.

Pros
N-able
  • Take Control is really good at accessing a device with no end-user involvement. The user doesn't have to click on permissions or visit a particular site. We simply can take control of their device from the RMM dashboard.
  • If Microsoft issues a patch/update, I can schedule a release of a mass install to all client sites at the click of a mouse from within my office.

TeamViewer
  • Allows remote login on to systems where the user doesn’t have to have their email established to open a link.
  • It uses the full monitor instead of a browser
  • File transfers are a breeze
  • Chat functionality works well too
  • Multiple sessions at once and viewing multiple monitors easily

Cons
N-able
  • Performance on low-end machines.
  • Verbosity when changing stream quality.
  • File manager needs improving, dragging files causes graphical issues.
  • Connection time needs to be reduced.
  • Ability to adjust re-connection time.
  • Integration with more password-storage applications.
  • Screen blanking is buggy in some instances and makes the session unusable.

We need this tool in our day to day business. It is what we do all day remoting into clients devices. In this day and age we can access devices all over the world as long as we have secure internet connection. It certainly saves money in gas, and even if you are away you can help.

The usability for TeamViewer is great as anyone should be able to use it immediately. On the admin side, the management console will take a little longer to use as you need to break down some areas and learn about Grouping and other features. They do provide tools to assist in the learning process. Using the service to remote control other devices is a breeze and super easy to do as it just works.

the few times i have had to contact teamviewer support, they were very responsive and give me quick answers and seemed to understand my problems quickly and easily. I did not have to sit on the phone for hours on hold or get passed around to multiple phone support techs before finding a solution to my issues, so i would rate their support very highly.

As expected without any problem! Alternate in-person training is another efficient way to learn how a product works. There are many third party supporters for TeamViewer courses available that can give additional ideas how to use TeamViewer for specific functions and features as we did require in respect of our usage.

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Again, 5 if for neutral.

Setting up new machines for our clients and organisation is straight forward and easy, even for someone with little experience in the area. The process remains the same regardless of what device or version we install it on and the TeamViewer ID also remains the same (based on hardware) regardless of how many times it is updated or removed and re-installed.

We were primarily a team-viewer customer before this point but the continued increases on cost, feature issues as well as core functionality and load issues we were beginning to see on the host machines we started looking for other options. As we were already a solar-winds customer utilizing the SAAS and Take Control for our Managed customers it was a no-brainer to look into Take Control. After a short review and the fact that we are already very familiar with the system via our management dashboard, it was an easy yes

Teamviewer was an organizational decision, not one that I made. Splashtop was integrated with NinjaRMM, which is based on ZenDesk; it performed all of the same functionality and had some features that I really appreciated, such as dragging and dropping from my desktop to the remote session. It had a lot of features that I particularly enjoyed, but most remote desktop packages do most of the same things. It's just a question of where a feature is located and how easy it is to activate.

  • We we're able to bundle Take Control into our RMM pricing removing the need to pay for a separate system and maintain its intergration
  • Remote access is only a click away saving our techs time
  • Reliable connection mean issues are resolved without having to 'fix' the remote access first

The benefits showed from the first day of use!
  • We have 12 local distributors of our products within our country, each hundreds of miles from our engineering department. Providing technical support without the remote access functions provided by TeamViewer would negatively impact our business since it would force us to mobilize specialized personnel with the costs that this implies.
  • Given the current state of technology, it is unacceptable for a customer to delay a repair until specialized personnel arrive. The benefits are not only measured in money but also in the speed of the solution. In short, more satisfied customers!
