TeamViewer

In general, as a piece of software, TeamViewer is excellent. It is fairly easy to both set up and to use, while also being quite feature-rich. Screen sharing is generally both high quality and responsive and adjusts to bandwidth demands and requirements on the fly and effectively. In addition, because TeamViewer can be used as both an on-demand type system (mainly for tech support sessions) as well as an always-on type system, TeamViewer can be used as a one-stop shop for remote access, screen sharing, and tech support.Unfortunately, TeamViewer's licensing system is borderline awful. Not only is the base price ($50/month) extremely high, making it out of the reach for many small businesses, it is nearly impossible to switch from a business license to a personal license if that is needed. To make matters worse, TeamViewer support is generally unresponsive when it comes to licensing requests.

Pros

  • Concurrent user licenses (called Channels). This was probably the most important factor for us. No wasted cost for Named User licences who rarely used the product. Only need to budget for how many licenses may be needed at the same time. We may have 20 supervisors that need to use TeamViewer, but never more than 3 would ever need it at the same time, so 3 licenses is all they need instead of 20.
  • When we purchased, there was the option for "permanent" licenses, so we paid more up front, but don't have to pay an ongoing fee. This would require another large cost to upgrade to a new version, but our use case has not required the new features, so our costs have been low. This was a large deciding factor when we purchased.
  • Fast remote control of user computers. Has been less laggy than other remote control options we have used. I know there are many options and updates over the years, but TeamViewer was better back when we got it, and it has not let us down yet.
  • The ability to have remote access to the Login screen, so we can still gain access after a computer reboots and has not been logged into yet.

Cons

  • The commercial price is expensive, taking into account the number of licenses you should acquire
  • Teamviewer updates are very constant, sometimes up to twice or thrice a year, which makes it expensive, because it forces you to buy a license
  • The browser version of TeamViewer is difficult to use. It's quite possible to connect to another computer through a browser with TeamViewer, but it's just not as effortless as the desktop version.
  • Drag-and-drop functionality between viewer and desktop is not available with TeamViewer which is available with other tools i.e. GoToMyPC
  • The support desk is not up to the mark, I feel even they lack the knowledge of the product.

I gave this a 5 rating as I'm thinking that is as close to neutral as I can get. I have never used the in-person training but to complete this review I need to answer this question. As I already answered I learned the software on my own without the help of any resources at TeamViewer.

I have never used the online training either. I have watched a few informational videos that were helpful when learning how to do a specific procedure within TeamViewer and get the most out of the software by utilizing one of the many features that are available with the software. Again, 5 if for neutral.

Alternatives Considered

Team Viewer is easier to use. Screen Connect offers a much better white label option. If your clients are going to have access to their remote computers as well, I recommend Screen Connect. If your team is the only one who needs access to remote computers, I recommend Team Viewer. That's how we do it anyway.
