Bitbucket is widely used as the primary version control tool for managing source code across various organizations and departments. Developers rely on Bitbucket to check in their branches, create pull requests, and merge approved branches into the main branch. It integrates seamlessly with other tools from the Atlassian Jira suite, such as Jira, Bamboo, and Confluence, providing a reliable and easy-to-integrate source control solution. Users appreciate Bitbucket for its ability to store and track code for personal projects, as well as share them with friends and colleagues. It serves as a valuable version control system in web development departments, where each developer has their own account and is assigned to appropriate groups. Bitbucket also meets the needs of hosting Git repositories, offering stability and flexibility for different teams. Its responsive support, free private repositories, easy integration with CI tools, and smooth user interface are highly valued by users. Some users have experienced issues with the Windows client and found the website navigation unintuitive. However, overall, Bitbucket proves to be an indispensable tool for synchronizing work between developers and different teams, including external collaborators or organizations working on private projects. Additionally, small companies benefit from Bitbucket's offer of unlimited private repositories at no cost.

Stability: Users have found Bitbucket to be stable, with minimal unscheduled outages experienced over extended periods of usage. Several reviewers have mentioned that they have not encountered any major issues or disruptions while using the platform.

Code review feature: The code review feature of Bitbucket is considered good by many users. They appreciate the ability to comment on modified code and engage in discussions until a consensus is reached. This functionality has been praised for facilitating effective collaboration and ensuring high-quality code.

Integration with JIRA: Many users value Bitbucket's integration with JIRA, as it allows them to create a new branch directly from a JIRA issue. This feature helps keep code organized and easily accessible. Several reviewers have highlighted how this seamless workflow management enhances collaboration within teams.

Confusing and outdated user interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the confusing and outdated user interface of Bitbucket. They find it difficult to navigate, locate desired settings or features, and describe it as not intuitive or in need of updating.

Limited search engine functionality: The search engine in Bitbucket has been criticized for its limitations. Users have mentioned that it does not search within source code, requiring them to set up a third-party search engine. This lack of comprehensive searching capability hinders their ability to efficiently find specific code snippets or files.

Lack of integration options for third-party apps: Some users have expressed frustration with the limited integration options available for third-party apps in Bitbucket. They mention that this lack of flexibility makes it less convenient to use the tool alongside other tools they rely on for their development workflow.

Users commonly recommend Bitbucket for its strong version control capabilities and integrations with project management tools. They suggest considering Bitbucket, especially if you are already using other Atlassian products. Users also advise giving it a trial period of one month to determine if it meets your needs. Moreover, they mention that Bitbucket is straightforward to manage for basic code. However, some users caution that it may not be the optimal choice for handling multiple branches.

We use Bitbucket to handle any push request (PR) for new code to our framework and this is used across the whole organization. It is a user-friendly website to review any PR and you can see changes people are submitting. It is very usefully working with JIRA to create new branches off of the repository.
  • User-friendly to create and review PRs
  • Works well with JIRA to create new branches off of a repository
  • Easy to clone repository into a computer
  • It would be nice to download more files on to our local machine so we can do some test with new code
Bitbucket is useful for submitting code changes to a framework. It is very easy to use to review changes in a code. It may not be necessary if a company is not reviewing anything making changes to a framework.

We use Bitbucket across all of IT; it's a great product, very easy to integrate with for source control.
  • Pull request screen is simple and efficient.
  • Creating repositories has never been easier.
  • Permissions management is easy to use.
  • Note that the cloud version has a lot more features than the hosted one. The hosted one is fine, but it lags behind quite a bit on the cutting-edge stuff.
Great if you're using an Atlassian stack, as it integrates well with Bamboo and JIRA

We use Bitbucket at my organization for version control and storing source code coupled with Mercurial or Git. It is mainly used by the software development division, but other users have access to the repositories to view code and comment.
  • Collaboration is number one. As an Atlassian product, it fits perfectly well with the other tools and enables better collaboration through JIRA, Confluence and Hipchat.
  • Feedback - Very easy to use, you can get approvals and have discussions on the code.
  • Flexibility - Works with Git and Mercurial.
  • Pricing - You pay for what you use and your number of users.
  • Can be complicated to understand for new users, especially when there are integrations with Bitbucket Pipelines and Bamboo.
For software development work, Bitbucket is very well suited. It has the flexibility needed to adapt to any software team, no matter what language they use or version control system. It is also scalable, as it can be as useful to small teams or to very big and distributed ones. It is not appropriate if you work on small scripts on your own, as it is useless without the need to synchronize and collaborate on the code.

Bitbucket is currently being used as our primary source control tool across development and data teams. We host all of our code, data operations scripts, SSIS projects, etc., in Bitbucket repositories. It's essential for proper code maintenance, collaborating among teams, versioning, etc., as well as integrating well with the other Atlassian products we work with.
  • Easy integration with SourceTree.
  • Perfect avenue for code reviews.
  • Easy to understand interface.
  • More efficient and easy to understand methods for addressing merge conflicts.
  • Assigning access levels and group access is a bit confusing.
  • Better community forums for addressing shared problems with the tool.
Bitbucket is perfectly suited for any organizations utilizing Atlassian tools (as our organization does). It takes a tool that works especially well for versioning and team collaboration and elevates it with the ability to integrate with specific projects in JIRA, documentation in Confluence, and general communication across the organization. It also provides good backups for repositories. Some less than ideal scenarios are if you are working external tools that don't integrate directly with Bitbucket.

I am currently using Bitbucket for my own personal projects. Bitbucket gives me a place to store and track the code for these projects, and share them flexibly with friends and colleagues - or keep them private as needed. Both the core git service and web interface have been reliable and fully featured in my experience.
  • Offers private repositories, even with their free service level.
  • Full featured, functional web interface.
  • Web interface includes editing for quick text changes.
  • Although the web interface is very full-featured, it is sometimes not intuitive to find the setting or feature you are looking for.
For proprietary work or private projects that you just aren't ready to share, Bitbucket has a fairly clear edge. For open-source projects, it's very difficult to beat GitHub - there's almost no reason to steer away from GitHub for open-source. However, they charge for private projects, while Bitbucket does not.

Bitbucket and most Atlassian products are being used. It provides amazing source control as well as integrating with our ticketing tool, chat application and others.
  • Provide clean UI for Git source control.
  • Allow for public and private repositories.
  • Integrate with all other Atlassian products allowing for a full suite or products we use for development.
  • The UI (while currently being refreshed) could use some more "shiny" features. GitHub seems to has more.
  • Sometimes page load times are a bit slow.
Bitbucket is super easy to use and allows for private repos (unlike GitHub). Pricing is better than GitHub.

Bitbucket within our company is used as our main code repository and our preferred Git version control platform. It is used across our whole organization as we have migrated from GitHub earlier this year. The business problem it addresses is, it is responsible for hosting our code, team code collaboration, and general code maintenance of our project.
  • Integrates with Atlassian software suite
  • Simple and easy to use UI
  • Free private repositories
  • Pull requests and code reviews are easy to do with Bitbucket
  • Not open-source
  • Less integration with software outside of Atlassian suite
  • Missing two factor authentication
Bitbucket is an amazing tool for Git and Mercurial VCS based teams, with an easy to use interface with full-fledged features such as code reviews that include comments, pull request reviewers, and a very in-depth code analysis and search engine. I really enjoy using Bitbucket for the unlimited private repositories.

We use bitbucket across multiple dev teams for source code management. It allows us to use the dev favorite GIT and keep our source code hosted internally. The integration with other Atlassian products is great.
  • Great web interface letting you browse code, makes life easy for devs.
  • Great integration with SourceTree, the local GIT client also by Atlassian.
  • Great visual system for pull requests (code reviews).
  • Some .md markup functionality, such as anchors has not worked as expected - this may be fixed in more recent versions.
  • A better way to handle merge conflicts in the Bitbucket UI would be nice.
Bitbucket has worked well for me in two different jobs, in two different sectors. One job was for a smaller dev team (< 10 devs); the other job had multiple dev teams (> 100 devs) concurrently using it.

Bitbucket is used as a version control system in the web department of my company. The developers each have their own account and are assigned to their appropriate groups. Before my company was using BitBucket, we didn't have any version control. GitHub has a monthly fee for private repositories. It makes deployment and rolling back code changes much easier.
  • Private Repositories for no cost!
  • Group Management is a breeze!
  • Easy to use layout!
  • The UI is very confusing at first. It takes a little while to get used to.
  • Group management is easy, but group access is a little more confusing.
  • Some verbiage, like "Pull Request" vs. "Merge Request" could be updated, but isn't crucial.
Anyone on a lean budget that needs private repositories could make use of BitBucket. It integrates well will all other Atlassian tools, but also many external tools such as Asana and Slack. It can also be used as a backup for repositories. You can potentially sync your Git Repositories to GitHub, Gitlab and BitBucket very easily.

Bitbucket is used almost across the entire organization as the version control tool of choice.
  • It has a nice intuitive web UI
  • It has several clients for Windows, Linux and Mac
  • It is a full-featured Git client that allows one to perform all Git operations seamlessly
  • At the moment there are no big issues I see with bitbucket, at least not from the use cases that we use it for
It is well suited for any team that needs a Git-based version control system. It is also great if the organization's tool stack involves Atlassian's tools. It is not appropriate for teams that require some other version control system that is not Git-based.

Bitbucket was being used for all projects across data and engineering team. The goal was to store files and software codes in a common place where easy to see any version of each file or documents while keeping the easy integration with other business management products. Our company has already chosen Atlassian products like Jira, so the development can also link source code branches created by Bitbucket.
  • Easy integration
  • Use git SCM under the hood
  • Works really well with other Atlassian products
  • Custom themes for the online websites like dark
  • Twitter channel for outage or issues
  • Specific Slack group for users to share issues or best practices
If you have already any of Atlassian product installed like JIRA or confluence then Bitbucket is a nice straightforward fit. Easy to create software branches in connection with any task or epic defined in Jira, so its immediately visible for product owners and any developer can check related changes. Not appropriate if you have already using other tool like Gitlab or paid GitHub alternatives, but you can definitely cut costs if you have small teams of 5 people, because you can have unlimited private repos as well, not like in GitHub.

Bitbucket is good overall and meets our needs for hosting our Git repositories. It has been stable since we began using it more than a year ago, and the account flexibility has been useful for our different teams. The biggest issue we have had is the slow and unstable Windows client, which we stopped using after a couple days due to constant crashing. Also, the website navigation is not intuitive and we have had to write documentation just to remember where various links are located. It really could use cleaning up, as we are website developers and designers and even we have trouble with the navigation.
  • User account and team flexibility works very well
  • Stable
  • Integrates well with third party Git clients
  • Website navigation is confusing
  • SourcTree client is slow and crashes too often
We use bitbucket with three small, separate teams that add up to about eight people total. I don't see a situation where it wouldn't be useful to use offsite storage of repositories. If the first party client is needed then I would look elsewhere, even though the client for github is also slow and unstable.

We use bitbucket to host many private code repos for all of our projects. We leverage the git versioning and branching to manage releases of app software, web apps, web sites, codebases and other projects. We manage a team of around 10 with group based policy access to branches and repos that streamlines our workflow across Mac and Windows developers working in Javascript, LeSS, ScSS, ASP.net, and many other web technologies.
  • The interface is awesome, and accomplishing tasks is fantastic
  • There are many tools and options within the repo setting available to you
  • Manages pull reqeusts and user based access control to branches
  • Hosted which means the code is out of your control on someone else's server
  • Web interface can sometimes be slow
  • More hooks
It is well suited for smaller agile teams of designers and developers that don't want to spend too much time setting up a git server on their own. I can't tell you how incredibly easy it is to get started using git versioning with Bitbucket! It's almost too easy. I definitely recommend allowing yourself some time to find the best workflow that suits you and your team. The great thing is with Bitbucket it is flexible so that you can easily adapt your workflow as your team grows and changes.
