Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Previously we had lots of issues with storing secrets and environment variables. Keys and secrets are difficult to integrate, but now after using Doppler Services it made life easier to keep all our secrets in one place. Most DevOps teams always struggle to store these keys, secrets, etc. Now, application integrations and sharing secrets is much easier and secured in one place, so need to see multiple places for each secret.

  • Syncing and managing all secrets is much easier
  • Even versioning is great feature to consider

Doppler is a really good service for SecretOps, it handles, syncs, and integrates with APIs & cloud platforms. Most DevOps tasks can be optimized and improved at a greater rate. It can integrate dashboards, APIs & secrets with any cloud or on-premise environment. It can handle environment variables, API keys, DB URLs, Secrets, Ports, Private keys, or Public Keys which makes CI/CD Integration much easier.
Applications can be monitored and developed easier than before which make developers life easier.

Alternatives Considered
Doppler is really good at SecOps compared to other applications. It provides the best services like GitHub integration, cloud platform integrations, and managing secrets. It has the real functionality of synchronizing the secrets and safekeeping them. As it has a complete hand over multiple clouds it makes developers integrate over across cloud platforms. Hence, it is highly recommended to use and imply on.

The same variables apply to all developers, and we maintain consistency across all of our setups.It is very simple to have a list of all relevant secret and configuration variables in one location.There is no longer any need to keep any secrets, not even development or testing secrets, in our local machines or codebases, making it much more secure while remaining incredibly simple to manage. The big thing is that this eliminates the need to manage secrets in multiple places, which almost always results in secrets leaking. Additionally, it is significantly simpler to keep new secrets or changes in sync with developers and environments when there is a single source of truth for secrets.
Pros
  • The integrations that Doppler offers are excellent.
  • dynamic since I can have different environments
  • The fact that there is also a command line interface definitely appeals to me.
Cons
  • I wish I could grant developers more granular access.
  • It takes some effort to set up environments, and their documentation and tooling might be improved.
Likelihood to Recommend
Doppler largely saved us time by guaranteeing that the factors in our environment remained constant across projects and engineers' local surroundings. When onboarding new team members, access to production deploys is prevented by restricting access tokens to development and staging environments.
Enhancing the degree of control that application teams have over their deployments (our DevOps team assists with initial setup, and app developers have access to the Doppler UI for making adjustments/changes)

Alternatives Considered
The "sharing secrets" issue has mostly been resolved for us by Doppler, especially for local development. In addition to using it with GitHub Actions for builds, we also use it locally, in K8s, across AWS (primarily via SSM integration), and across other platforms.
