Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Gusto for onboarding, time tracking, general compliance, and payroll + reimbursements for employees and contractors. I have used Gusto now for over eight years, and it is an essential part of my business. I never worry about tax compliance, where my onboarding docs are, or if my 1099s and W2S are filed. They keep me in the loop about what needs to be done, and it's been very easy for my team to use.

Pros

  • New employee/contractor onboarding - all the documents are stored and easily accessible (the same goes for off-boarding).
  • A one-click option for syncing hours worked with payroll.
  • The option to run payroll on auto-pilot.
  • Ensuring I'm tax compliant with the states we have employees in.
  • Always having digital records of payroll runs.

Cons

  • Tracking hours by project (could be acheived for us by having the option for employees/contractors leave notes when logging hours)
  • I have several contractors who I run weekly payroll for- it would be helpful to not have to update the pay ranges manually every time I run payroll. In other words, I would like to set pay weeks for them as well.
  • The app could use some improvement. It lacks some of the desktop version's functionality.

Return on Investment

  • It saves me time and energy - I'm not worried about being compliant or having everything I need for tax season. It's all there!
  • I don't wonder when my team is working- they can easily log in and out of the system.
  • I don't have to handle updating information when an employee or contractor has changes - they have their own portal.

Best Decision for Small to Midsize Teams

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We decided to use Gusto to help streamline our processes after we have been using a piece-meal situation with many different platforms and programs. Gusto has allowed us to bring everything into one space and made it much easier to onboard staff. We now use it for PTO, benefits, time tracking, hiring and so much more.

Pros

  • Makes this easier for HR staff in organizations
  • Easy onboarding for new staff that can be hired straight form the platform
  • Easy to get help through the site

Cons

  • I'd like to see more opportunity for individualization - like in the response emails that go out to candidates

Return on Investment

  • It has lowered our overall costs of subscriptions to various platforms
  • It has allowed us to spend significantly less time on administrative tasks
