  • Dedup does a really good job, but you pay for what you get, Flash is not cheap currently. It still performed better than expected.
  • Pure was very clear with us about the benefits, the product delivered what we were told.

  • The positive impact the Pure Storage FlashArray has had on one of our business objectives is providing that easy DR capability and providing us with metrics to offer a reasonable SLA to the customers.
  • Another positive impact the Pure Storage FlashArray has had on a business objective is the ability to shrink our footprint from 3 arrays to one, in addition to simplifying administration to a single pane of glass.
  • One more positive impact the Pure Storage FlashArray has had on a business objective is the ability to soon integrate with other cloud providers if we needed to supplement our offsite backup requirements.

  • Time spent managing the array is drastically reduced. There's really nothing that has to be done on a regular basis. Software upgrades are handled remotely by Pure Storage.
  • We've seen 200-300% speed increases on long-running, database-intensive processes in some of our larger enterprise applications.

  • The FlashArray has allowed us to meet our objective of switching to a BYOD environment while providing the resources required to support effective learning. If the school had not followed a BYOD model, the college would have had to deploy and maintain many additional computer labs consisting of 40 - 60 desktop computers that require replacement every couple of years. Plus, students would have to continue provided lab storage in the form of a USB connected SSD which proved to be somewhat problematic.
  • There has, so far, been an unexpectedly high level of storage efficiency which will likely allow the school to expand programs without purchasing additional storage. Pure guaranteed a 5:1 data reduction level and over the first year of operation, that ratio was closer to 35:1. Although not all programs have started using the infrastructure that utilizes the array, we are confident that we will continue to see that high level of efficiency.

  • With a 5.x Data reduction in production, the solution has allowed the business to receive the benefit of peak performance at critical business events (admissions, results etc) without over-investing in Hardware that sits underutilized.
  • The ease of provisioning via the Pure API's has removed the need for a dedicated Storage admin, the Platform team can now run via code and don't have to wait for manual zoning or carving out of storage, when new workloads need to be provisioned or scaled up it is done immediately inline with the business need.
  • The Evergreen nature of the product removes the capital lumpy spend profile. This fact, augmented with the HW upgrade with no downtime, the business keeps running and scaling without IT being a roadblock, we are an enabler.

  • SAN devices are critical to any business processes using them, so downtime due to firmware upgrades multiple disk failures can easily cost $1M or more.
  • Previous, competing SAN arrays had occasional downtime for patches and once suffered failure of too many disks, rendering storage inoperable.
  • Pure Storage FlashArray has increased our uptime by eliminating patch outages and proactively warns of degrading disks so they can be replaced prior to failure.

  • The power savings we have after upgrading to Pure Storage is great. Less than half of what we were paying on our previous storage.
  • Migrating to Pure storage allows us to run our virtual desktops and servers from the same flash array as opposed to using separate storage for each.
  • Moving to Pure Storage allows us to consolidate rack space decreasing our footprint in our data center.

  • Over its life cycle, the Flash Array units that we have purchased will almost pay for themselves in power savings alone. Reducing from hundreds of always spinning disks to two shelves of flash has reduced our data center power consumption by 60% or more.
  • The Free Every Three program with Pure has meant we've already received a new controller on our main FlashArray unit, just for renewing maintenance. This gave us an incremental increase in every stat - welcome, even if unneeded!
  • We are now able to easily spin up in minutes copies of entire production application frameworks - database servers, domain controllers, etc., to perform complex testing against *the real systems*, isolated in a safe little bubble, and without consuming any additional disk to speak of, thanks to the de-duplication performance.
