CyberSource, acquired by Visa in 2010 and now part of Visa Acceptance Solutions, is payment technology, and includes offerings with flexible payment solutions that work across the globe.

Presented as a payments orchestration platform, that manages online payment processing from start to finish, across different payments methods, channels and geographies. This extra payment orchestration layer handles the payment service providers, acquirers and banks involved in the user's payments stack. It is designed to take the stress out of the process, and deliver a single consolidated overview of payments system for a business. For enterprises or small business, its merchant payment processing solutions deliver a unified payment experience across channels and devices.

It is an open architecture platform, meaning merchants, developers, acquirers, software solutions and providers connect to each other via the platform. And with one integration, they can work together to create any payment solution desired. Through its connection to a community of payment and technology providers, capabilities can be expanded to include fraud management, tokenization, and local payment methods. And its APIs and SDKs provide a modern coding environment.

This system allows effective payment processing and it offers high capabilities on financial bid data management and analytics generation capability is excellent. Financial reporting through CyberSource features is an easy and very intuitive system with a secure environment for multiple data handling and the tracking of previous project payments and other business transaction data.

Easy, stable, and effective financial data management and also excellent for multiple contacts management and easy to provide accurate reports on multiple payment processing and various project activities. The CyberSource features are simple and easy to custom their functionalities and even scheduling using the solution is an amazing and useful data visualization platform.

Cybersource is our current payment Gateway for our ecommerce sales. It is also connected to our ERP through a 3rd party ISV. Our various sales channels either connect directly to Cybersource via API's or through our 3rd party connection (Red Maple) and their CyberSource connected API's. We use tokenization, pre-authorizations, charges and refunds.

  • Support is not very responsive
  • Reports in the system are cumbersome
  • Site navigation is not intuitive
For basic users it is probably a good fit. For connecting it's API's are straightforward and most would find it an easy connection to be made. The site overall is just not designed well. When you try to look at transactions a portion of the information is cut of without a scroll bar being added to slide to the fields you would like to see. If you need to see the data on the screen you need to make some adjustments.

Processing Customer credit card payments: When a customer checks out a web order, the business's website provides the customer with a window hosted by CyberSource. The customer enters their card details, and CyberSource routes the transaction to the Visa or Mastercard payment network. The network routes the transaction to the card issuer for approval.

  • price transparency- it's hard to know exactly what you're being charged for. We are charged a small % of each incoming payment batch, so AR reconciliation is more difficult
  • implementation- significant time and expertise required to get everything up and running smoothly
This is the market leader for this service and a mid-sized organisation is unlikely to find a provider that can provide the same value for money. Once it is all set up, the process runs in the background with little involvement from our organisation. It means no customer card details are ever collected or stored on-site, reducing our compliance headache. A very large organisation or one with a very complex website may find it inadequate.

For high volume low cost credit card processing, CyberSource is ideal. They support multiple currencies and many types of API integration. If you can find an existing integration please use that, because building it yourself requires a lot of patience and deep understanding of their APIs.

Unprofessional company. I got a quote for their payment gateway and made an appointment to review it. The account manager, Joe Murray, blew me off. A week’s worth of attempts via email and phone to contact him went without a response. I called to see if I could get another account manager, they said I had to stay with Mr. Murray and he was available today and they sent him a note to get back to me today. Of course, he didn’t. Do they want my business or not? If they do not, at least have to courtesy to tell me. I was recommended by my current gateway to contact them because my current gateway cannot do what I want. They should at least give me the respect to tell me they cannot help me.

Cybersource is used to have a gateway connection to all of the credit card processing centers as well as PayPal processing. We also use a product from them called Decision Manager which is used to catch and stop orders that may be fraud from getting through without review.
  • They have built the connections to multiple card providers so that a retailer does not need to build the code for each one separately.
  • The decision manager product catches and stops a lot of fraud from getting through and causing a large number or chargebacks.
  • They also connect to PayPal making it easy to add them to any website as a payment method.
  • Sales or account management pushes all issues and questions to support it is hard to just get a quick answer from your rep. Support is good but also can take more time then your rep answering an email question.
  • Support does not allow for scheduling a conference call so that you can get multiple parties on the phone at the same time to resolve an issue. You should be allowed, via the ticket system, to schedule a support person to dial into a call for support on an issue.
It is the gold standard for e-commerce use. Others out there and can cost less, but CyberSource has been the leader for some time.

Cybersource is being used by the eCommerce department. All payment transactions go through the Cybersource payment gateway.

It helped our department to address next problems:

  • Easy merchant account configuration
  • Fraud management capabilities that allow us to configure simple rules to prevent certain transactions
  • Provides reliable and secure payment processing
  • Easy international expansion, because multi-currency and dynamic currency conversion is supported
  • Reporting
  • Very reliable. Meets strict SLAs. Had quite a few problems in production.
  • PCI compliant payment provider.
  • Provides sandbox environments for engineers.
  • Technical documentation is messy and requires a lot of cleanup.
  • API sometimes is confusing and documentation makes it even more confusing.
  • Fraud detection must be more intelligent and be based on machine learning.
If you want a reliable and secure payment gateway then cybersource is a great solution. Your dev ops team will highly appreciate it. It doesn't provide advanced fraud management capabilities so you might want to integrate with another provider that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to detect fraudulent transactions based on available data.

I worked with many clients to create website on Demandware platform and used CyberSource as payment integration. CyberSource provides seamless integration with DW and provides readymade code to integrate. So in no time, payment integration is ready.

In the last project, Client wanted to use PayPal integration as well but did not want to manage 2 merchant accounts for settlement. We used Cybersource as now Cybersource provides Paypal integration as well. Client was pretty happy with this decision.

  • I am a professional in Demandware platform and CyberSource provides readymade code to integrate with DW codebase. So in turnaround time Payment integration is done with website.
  • Cybersource console is very easy to use, just browse for 10 mins and you will learn how to create rules, search and all other necessary configuration by yourself.
  • Cybersource support is very good, you just mail to POC and you will get response in no time. I have never seen such responsive support in my career.
  • Cybersource should think to go for restfull api call. I am not sure if it exists because with DW it is Soap call.
  • Cybersource should have some alerting mechanism where if certain auth declined in few mins, people get a notification to look.
We used Cybersource for Payment and fraud integration and it worked very well for us. We used this for billing address validation, credit card payment, Paypal payment and fraud check. I am not aware whether Cybersource have any restful api or not. If not, i will be unable to use this for angular application which is totally JS integration.
