Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MX

Part of the SMB stack. Perfect best in class device for protecting and connecting your local environment and infra structure. easy to keep monitor and if subscription is up to date, then everything is covered. setup is reasonably straight forward and if you don't need the full bells and whistle of the enterprise cisco gear, this gives you more than what you need

Pros

  • site to site with other MX
  • client VPN, got past the funky chinese great firewall
  • great support

Cons

  • the odd non-meraki site to site is not great but supported
  • mix and matching layer 7 rules
  • can drop ship and get smart hands or client to connect via phone call to setup if needed
  • support is out standing, usually over night all rma
The learning curve for new hires are pretty steep already, but making this cloud interface very intuitive and straight forward is a great asset for people to jump right in plus the logging will help revert things if someone tries to be too creative
when you have to use non-Meraki gear to connect things it plays well to get things working, there are some limitations but on the whole it makes it much easier to sort out.
when doing a very large scale deployment of branch offices the MX series had a cap of 50 devices, not sure if this has been increased, but had to create two hops when traversing the limit
light and day, there is a bit more of a cost but well worth the time and cost savings to deploy

Using Cisco Meraki MX

300 - the day to day protection of the firewall features of layer 7 and the ATP.

also for those outside of the office, we rely on the client vpn that is tied to AD, so that random connections are secure. this is even more important with the COVID and the work from home model. we are also looking to go HA with a hot spare since it's such a key point of access now
3 - all admin or senior admins. the administration of this is fairly straightforward and with the cloud portal we can tweak any changes from where ever. The email alerts are a great reminder when things goes wrong and can quickly review the health from anywhere. we don't need to be in the office anymore
  • security from intrusions
  • client vpn
  • stream line setup
  • for the technologically challenged we send out z3 and do a site to site from their home office
  • enable branch office site to site to so that it removes the need for client vpn
love the support and the easy to setup hardware

Cisco Meraki MX Training

  • Online Training
  • In-Person Training
great when they offered it, really tested your knowledge with hands on and see what your peers from other orgs know. glad to see that we were ahead of the curve of what our peers knew
it was okay as it was moderated but still better than nothing and done via semi self paced webex meeting

Configuring Cisco Meraki MX

for 99% of the use case there is no issues. it's just when there is some highly specialized need that the MX is a bit limited but these are the extreeme outliers

Yes - very basic and limited, generally just use the web interface as the mobile is more for seeing if the network is up and can't really do much

Cisco Meraki MX Reliability

only had to rma a few units and this is due to just long term use and failure. easy to replace and usually overnight. not a huge loss as it's add to dash board and go
almost perfect as there is always room for imporvement but for the price and effort to maintain well worth the ROI
